Historically, the run starts some time in The Bonneville cisco is one of three whitefish inhabiting Bear Lake. These whitefish are native to this large lake, which lies in Utah and Idaho. Since the cisco is small in size and has the characteristic small mouth of whitefish, it is not fished for by the traditional hook and line method. Cisco are netted via the use of a dipnet having an opening smaller than 18 in. in diameter. A liberal limit of 50 fish makes a trip worthwhile, especially since fishing for trout and the other two species of whitefish is allowed during the cisco run. Consult the 1974 fishing regulations for full details. A thin sheet of ice is now on Bear Lake, and if weather remains cold, it should thicken. Caution should be taken on the ice and in traveling to Bear Lake, where roads are reported as slick and rough in places. mid-Januar- dial y. fication. Most deer wintering in the Lassen Draw area belong to the Lake Fork herd, unit No. 37 and generally range during the summer and fall between Lassen Draw and Thistle in the present heavy oak brush vegetation. Studies of this type are becoming increasingly important with the advent of land use planning and environmental impact statements. When the Division of Wildlife Resources can objectively show that an area is important to wildlife, then city, county and state agencies can and should apply such information into their development program. In the light of yearly hunting seasons and hard winters, most deer probably do not reach half the age of No. 144.
