In March 1972, the Council recommended a restructuring of its membership to provide the broader and more balanced representation for the many groups now interested in public lands. The proposed amendment will reduce the Councils membership from 42 to 36, its livestock representation from 20 to 10, and the wildlife representation from 10 to 6. In addition to these reductions, the proposed amendment calls for additional members who would represent oil and gas, environmental quality, outdoor recreation, state government, and public utilities. The restructured Council will continue to have representation for forestry, urban and suburban deevlopment, mining, soil conservation, county government, and the statewide interests for Washington and Alaska. The Department of the Interior created the Council in 1940 with a membership of 20 livestock and 10 wildlife representatives. The Council was expanded in 1961 to include an additional 12 members to represent other land uses. These proposed regulations were published recently in the Federal Register and comment was invited. Comments should be sent to the Director, Bureau of Land Management, Washington, D.C. 20240. J DOMINEERING? in touch. Garfield and Wayne County Officials Make Road Commission Plea The Garfield and Wayne county officials appealed to the State Road Commission of Utah meet- ing in Panguitch for their assistance and cooperation in finding a way to improve the Boulder to Grove road through the Dixie National Forest. This road was taken off the State Highway system and placed on the Collector Road System by the Legislature during passage of the collector road bill. The Road Commission acknowledged the need for this improvement and instructed the Highway Department to develop more details on the possibilities which might be explored to finance this improvement. The department will report these details to the Road Commission at their next regular meeting in Salt Lake City on August 24.
