Show ' Page Two FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 1973 University of Utah Counseling Specialist Establishes Center Hunter Lions Start University Eye Bank Technological hardware will soon revolutionize the field of career information services says a University of Utah counseling specialist, who has established what may be the nations most complete career information center. Herald Carlston, director of the innovative facility, says he plans to make career messages available to high school and college students in video cassette form. Authoritative film-stri- p sound productions now offered by the center are being used by institutions in 43 states. Some day students will be able to get current career information simply by sitting at a console in their schools satellite center, and dialing random access in a central resource bank, Mr. Carlston predicts. A pioneer in the field of career information, the U of U specialist is currently the nations leading producer of full color career film srtips. Designed primarily for junior and senior high students, the kits include recorded narration in either standard or cassette tapes and printed scripts and instructions. My objective is to encourage students to lift their sights and become acquainted with the careers foi which typical university prepares its graduates for any particular school. We are simply attempting to inform the young people about the opportunities they will find on tomorrows job market. The Utah career expert believes the kits can also be used effectively in counseling centers One of the across the nation. biggest problems young people face is the choice they make in college study. Too many of them go about this crucial decision without any idea of the job opportunities that await them after graduation, he says. The establishment of the U of U Career Information Center last summer marks an increase, in resource libraries. Mr. Carlson says the department also houses thousands of publications supplied by professional societies and other organizations. This type of information has not been assembled anywhere else to our knowledge. It is a significant development for students, because they can now find a variety of career information in one place, he says. Ftraezone Is for corns that baft Absolutely painless. Lions Club members from Hunter, Utah will launch a telephone campaign this week end to raise $5,000 for an eye bank at the University of Utah Medical Center. The fund raising event will begin Friday, March 23, as the 25 members of the Hunter Lions start calling in the valley for pledges. The new eye bank will provide a storage facility for corneas which will be available to persons as needed, according to Dr. Henry J. L. Van Dyk, chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology at the medical center. The money will go toward a $1500 cooling unit to house the corneas, $1,000 for supporting equipment and training, and $2,5000 for a hydraulic reclining chair. The Hunter Lions have taken on the project as its part in the annual Lions White Cane Drive which annually raises money to help vision programs in Utah. Last year, Lions clubs raised and contributed $7,300 to the Library of the Blind for the purchase of Braille typewriters and other hospitals and blind centers received thousands more in additional funds for equipment. Hunter Lions officials said persons wishing to donate to the establishment of the Medical Center Eye Bank could mail the pledges to Lion Hank, Dept, of Ophthalmology, University Medical Center, 50 North Medical Dr., Salt Lake City, 84112. THE SALT LAKE TIMES Boys Learn to Cook, Sew, Do Dishes 4-- H A group of Riverton and West boys are learning to cook, sew, do dishes, make beds and do other chores that will help them better take care of themselves when they leave home, reports Kay Bendixsen, Utah State University youth agent. Their leader is Genevieve worker Schmidt, longtime now a and community supervisor. She initiated the program to give the boys confidence for leaving home, be it to go to college, work, a church mission or to get married. She also feels that as the times change and more women work out of the home, it is well that a man be able to know how to handle home activities. What do the youths think of the program? Without exception they all agreed that eating the food they had learned to prepare was the best part of the experience. Mrs. Schmidt has not been teaching the boys gourmet type cooking, but instead stresses the ready package mixes and simple favorecipes. One of the rites is pizza made from either packaged biscuits or English muffins. Along with the cooking lessons, Mrs. Schmidt has stressed good nutrition to the youths. I also make sure they do all of the dishes following a cooking experiment, she asked. The boys have also learned how to sort clothes and a trip to the laundromat is scheduled for the near future. In addition to teaching chores Mrs. Schmidt has also pointed out to the youths the importance of proper dress for the various occasions and encou- - Jordan 4-- H 4-- H 4-- H 4-- H 4-H- ers 4-- H Listen and Compare Thousands Have And Now Enjoy Solid Gold Hits Every Day Published reports that Mountain Fuel Supply Co. Mr. Kastler said the Church Buttes No. 21 well is presently testing the Morgan formation at a depth of 18,659 feet but thus far has not encountered gas in any significant quantity in this formation, much less a discovery of the magnitude reported. It would appear the published reports have confused the Morgan and Dakota formations, Mr. Kastler said, inasmuch as we did make a drill stem test in the Dakota formation in August of 1972 at a depth interval between 12,902 and 12,981 feet flowing at a calculated rate of 24.65 million cubic feet of gas a day. The Dakota formation, however, is the present producing formation in the Church Buttes field and the gas encountered in the August 1972 test does not necessarily increase reserves in the Dakota formation at Church Buttes. Mr. Kastler said the Church Buttes No. 21 is located about midway between Church Buttes No. 19 and Butcher Knife Spring No. 1 wells, both of which discovered gas in the Morgan formation at depths in excess of 18,000 feet. . raged good manners. Nutrient density is the proportion of important nutrients in a food to the caloric value of that food. For example, meat and milk are foods that give you larger quantities of essential nutrients along with calories. Boys and girls need to have repeated experience with desirable food practices over an extended period of time if good food habit formation is to result.
