The best sites for gathering pine nuts in the state appear to be in the Wah Wah Mountains and the southern Pine Valley of the BLM Fillmore District. These areas are nearly 40 miles west of Minersville, where road conditions are poor. There are some scattered pine nut areas in Hamblin Valley about 50 miles northwest of Lund in the BLM Cedar City District. The nearest areas to the Wasatch Front are the Deep Creek Mountains about 100 miles southwest of Vernon, north end of Raft River Mountains 60 miles west of Tremonton and the Boulter Mountains 30 miles southwest of Fairfeld; The latter three areas are in the Bureaus Salt Lake District and the crop is poor. Anyone desiring to look for pine nuts is advised to contact in advance the BLM district office responsible for the areas of interest. panogos Cave as the summer season draws to a close. Superintendent Don H. Castleberry said that cave tours will continue to be offered 7 days per week until about the end of October, when the cave trail becomes unsafe as a result of ice and snow. Visitors are reminded to bring a light coat or sweater for the trip in the cave. Advance reservations are required for for the organized groups planning to visit the caves to assure that sufficient guides are available and unnecessary overcrowding is avoided.
