Woodbury have pledged a donation to the Utah Museum of Natural History for a Reptiles of Utah exhibit in n honor of their father and University of Utah biologist. A plaque inscribed In honor of Angus M. Woodbury, Pioneer Western Scientist, will be fastened to the display. Museum Director Dr. Jesse D. Jennings said. We are extremely pleased with this type of donation. Aside from the gift itself, it is fitting for- - the Museum to honor Utah scientists both living and dead. The Museum is located in the remodeled , George Thomas Library Building on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, where exhibits are under development said to be on a par with the other respected museums of the world. Dr. Woodbury devoted much of his life to ecological studies of Utah, including birds, reptiles and other animals. He was professor emeritus at the University working on special research when he and wife wife were killed in an auto accident in 1964 near Fort Collins, Colo. At the time of his death at the age of 78, he was one of the wests well known biologists, and had recently completed the ecological study of Glen Canyon for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation prior to the filling ol Lake Powell. It was Dr. Woodburys article in Science Magazine in the early 1960s that turned the tide on a proposal to build a costly dam that would have prevented Lake Powell from backing up beneath Rainbow Bridge. He argued that such a dam would have marred the landscape even more than the waters of the lake. Dr. Woodbury began his career for the U.S. Forest Service well-know- . 1908 and worked in various government jobs and in dairy farming until 1925 when he joined the National Park Service in Zion National Park, working as Park naturalist during the summers until 1933. He got his B.S. degree in biology from BYU in 1927, his M.S. from the University of Utah in 1928 and his Ph.D. at the University of California in 1931 and conducted his post graduate study at the University in Southern Utah in of Min- of Wisconsin, University required to serve upon or mail nesota and Duke University. to: BURTON, BLONQUIST, His first teaching job at the MATHESON & SHAFFER, plaintiffs attorneys, whose University was as an instructor address is Suite 640 Kennecott in zoology and biology in 1927.
