He came to the was Slide when the town-siconout and helped in the laid struction of the town. One of the te first buildings was the hotel which was needed to house the men who came to work at the cement plant. Bill came from Logan, Utah where he had been in the candy making business with his father and two broth- ers. Frances Summers came from Coalville, Utah to work in the hotel. It was here they met, fell in love and were married. Their oldest son was born, after which they returned to Logan to make their home. During that time two daughters, Faye and Delia; were born. Devils Slide beckoned, so they returned and made their home in the happy little village once again. Here three more sons Reed, Grant and Dan were born to them. Bill was an ardent community and church worker, having served for twenty -- one years as Superintendent of the Sunday School organization. Every Sunday morning one could see Bill and his children going to Sunday School while Frances stayed home to prepare the dinner. Frances was one of the best cooks in the town. Her lemon meringue and apple pies will never be forgotten or the delicious good old home-mabread and rolls. The Nielson door was always open to friends and neighbors who often partook of her handsomely prepared meals. "Bill was an ardent sports fan. He followed his four sons in all their sport activities, especially baseball. All of them were good players and their, proud Dad never missed a game. He was a deer hunting enthusiast also. Every fall, two weeks before the hunting season, preparations were under way to accompany his sons to the mountains on horseback for the hunt' and always coming home with deer meat for the winter. The relationship was very rewarding to him. And I'm sure many kids will remember how he joined in the games of "Run Sheep. All of the kids in town received a sample of the goodies. Day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year Bill climbed those steep flights of stairs at the Cement Plant to see that all of the kilns were functioning properly. He did this until his legs would no longer stand the strain. He retired as foreman and they moved to Morgan, Utah to spend the remaining years of their lives. Devils Slide was a better place for having had Bill and Frances Nielson as loyal community and church leaders. They helped to make it a good place in which to live and be happy."
