She earned this nickname by carry lng water from a nearby stream to the parched troops of Washington's Army. When in the battle her husband was wounded, she set her water pitcher down and manned his cannon. History did not forget Molly and neither did Congress because Molly was given a special pension after the war. Louisa May Alcott did write Little Women but the Army also remembers her for serving, as an Army nurse during the Civil War. This famous woman's nursing career came to an end when she contacted typhoid faver while caring for the1 sick and wounded. Today the Molly Pitchers and Louisa May Alcotts are still serving their nation with die tlnction. Molly Pitcher's memorty is being proudly carried forwan by the Women's Army Corpa of 10,000 strong. However, the Army's present need for WAC'S is now over 13,000. To carry on the Alcott tradition the Army Nurse Corps presently has over 4,000 nurses serving 11 over the world. There are approximately 630 in 53 medical installations in Vietnam. Unfortunately, these nurses are working long han hours, making personal sacrl flees because the Army has less than what is needed.
