Anderson A Deseret News editorial on July 17, in lamenting the problems of paper money in the world markets, says that a simple and stable world economic system is badly needed. The simplest and most stable system available is a return to real money that is, something of real value as a means of exchange. Gold, for example, has maintained high value and has worked quite well as money for many centuries. The most difficult problem in switching back to the gold standard would be getting the politicians and bankers to allow it. Worthless paper has sold at tremendous profit to those in control of the Federal Reserve, and they will not easily relinquish control of the money system. Another Deseret News editorial on July 22 gives some excellent arguments against minimum wage laws and then advocates the conservative (?) action of raising the legal minimum a mere 40 instead of an inflationary 60. In arguing against the extra 20 the News points out that the minimum wage is a direct cause of unemployment because employers will not pay the minimum wage when a potential worker is not worth the legal minimum. Those who need jobs the worst cannot find employment because the government will not permit them to work for low wages. functioned for several weeks. However, other complications set in and she finally passed away at 12:45 a.m., July 21, 1972, just two days after her twentieth birthday. DEAL Thank you, friends.
