Jacksons accounting and insurance business on the morning of Friday, Mar. 31, 1972. No search or seizure warrants were presented by the IRS agents. At 11:15 a.m. on Mar. 31, seven IRS agents unexpectedly entered the Roy J. Jackson and Associates business at 3660 Wall Avenue in Ogden, Utah. They just came in here, said Jackson, like a bunch of Gesseven of them. tapo agents They came in the office I was busy with a client, had just Roy J. Jackson sits despondently at his desk after having all of his business records conf iecatad by the IRS, and they started with them physically escorted the clients outside and told them to leave, that I was closed, and then physically escorted me from here with physical contact and I sat on a chair out there while they went through the records. Jackson says the IRS agents' showed him their badges and said he was under arrest for preparing fraudulent tax returns. They did give him the Miranda warning before they took him to the Federal Building to appear before Magistrate Daniel A. Alsup. Anderson was born in California but grew up in Utah where he attended Granite High School and the University of Utah. He worked as a reporter for the Deseret News. Jack Anderson had a lawsuit brought against him for allegedly having stolen a briefcase at a GOP convention in Salt Lake City a few years ago and having then published some of the confidential information that was in the briefcase. The case was dismissed on a legal technicality. Merry-Go-Roun- FBI d Director J. Edgar Hoover in a speech given Oct. made the following comments in reply to Jack Andersons consistent criticisms of Hoover and the FBI: As you are aware, a new Headquarters for the Bureau is very 22, 1971 gradually emerging from the ground on Pennsylvania Avenue across the street from the Justice Building. One local newsman has compared it to the building of a uGreat Pyramid, I feel I must disagree with bis observation.,.1 am convinced that the ancient Egyptians were able to build their pyramids in far less time than it is taking to erect our new building. There are some who maintain that the only reason I am staying on as Director of the FBI is to be present at the dedication. This is absolute nonsense. At the rate the building is going up, none of us will be around by the time it is completed. This, of course, is the fervent wish of some of my more virulent critics. One of tbem...his name escapes me for the moment.. .has apparently fallen d once too off his censure has ever included anything like the commendation and the $500 check that this d young man received for averting what could have been a real tragedy. Under the circumstances, is it any wonder that there are some who question the accuracy, no less the ' integrity and motives of some news scavengers? In spite of such comments about Jack Anderson by J. Edgar Hoover, the Deseret News boastingly carries his column cool-heade- so-call- ed Deseret News editor William B.
