Postmaster Clare Larsen Is attending the Postmasters Convention in Heber this week. One of the highlights of the convention is the dedication ceremony of the new post office and federal building in shortage in staffs by 1975 Heber City. The convention got under way on the evening of Tuesday, with registration beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a program was presented at 8:00 p m., and was sponsored by the postmaster of Midway and the July 11, Midway Boosters Club at Midway Town Hall. The purpose of the trip was to attend graduation exercises for a granddaughter, Karen McDonnell from Wilson High School in Long Beach. They also attended the awards program for the honor students and for the scholarship awards, which were given at two different ceremonies. Karen was on the honor roll and received an award for her school work. Karen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill McDonnell. 'It is urgent that the country become aware of this serious shortage, which would mean that many libraries would be open for shorter periods and professional services and individualized reference attention would be curtailed, said Dr. Francis E. McKenna, president of the association. Dr. McKenna said that in 1966 about 65,000 professional librarians were employed in public, school and college libraries. There were 6,000 more in specialized libraries, he said, and a total of about 5,300 professional positions were vacant. This number is expected to increase to 20,000 by 1967, he said. The family of the late Kathryn Blight Atherley grant awarded Research grants in the amount of $1,800 were made this week by the Utah Heart Association for the study of rheumatic fever patients. Funds were made available from a special research budget established by donations from member clubs of the Utah Federation of Business and Professional Women. Utah reportedly has the highest incidence of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in the nation. The grantees are Gary M. Watts and Eldon Bruce Mclff, senior medical students at the University of Utah College of Medicine. They will be under the direction of L. George Vea-sy, M.D. Watts and Mclff will evaluate regimens for prevention and treatment of rheumatic fever in Utah. A group of 100 patients with a diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever and admitted to the Primary Childrens Hospital will be studied by Watts.
