Methodist Church annual picnic Methodist Church members and the Sunday School clas- ses will' combine this Sunday, July 12, for their annual picnic, which will be held in Canyon. Rev. Eldon Nicholson, the newly appointed pastor, will have charge of a short service, preceding the picnic festivities. The church will supply the drinks, and the members are asked to bring their own lunch. ' San-taqu- in LDS Church Services Eureka Ward Bishop Bartschi conducted the sacrament meeting at the Eureka Ward Sunday morning. The music was by Mayme Wirthlin at the organ, with Faye Ryan conducting. The invocation was given by Lee Bird. The Sacrament Gem was given by John Phillips. Mis. A. L. Broderick was made a member of the ward. She recently returned to Eureka after making her home in Delta for the past several years. Mrs. Polly McIntyre and Mrs. Joan Wahlberg were released as workers in the Sun-day School. Justin Lamb of Santaquin, represented the Stake High Council at the meeting. Elroy Murdock, Stake Mission President, was also in attendance. The baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bigler was blessed by her grandfather, Mac Bigler, and was given the name of' Shauna Catherine. Vol 62 Fire detroys A truck totally destroyed' Monday morning at about 10:30 a.m., on Highway 6, seven miles south of Eureka. The truck, a 49 Dodge and the trailer were owned by Joe A. 57, of Quincey, California. The small box trailer was loaded with furniture and effects, belonging to his passenger, Elieen Stone, 50, also of Quincey. They were returning from Texas, where Mrs. Stone went to dispose of some property and to bring her furniture back to California. They planned on being married in Reno. The truck caught fire, and before they could disengage the trailer, sparks ignited the interior, totally destroying the trailer and its contents. A motorist notified State Trooper, Tom Rynearson, who went to their assistance. He brought them into town, where the Red Cross was notified. The Red Cross 'bought them a meal and gave them enough mosey to return to California. Damage to the truck and trailer was estimated at $2500. There will be close to 100 girls and leaders participating in the wonderful week of fun and learning and special activities. In charge of the activity will be Lilly Hudson, YWMIA Activity Leader, and JoAnn Thomas, sports director. Other stake and ward leaders will also attend for part of the activities through- out the week. Tuesday, July Three Scouts from the stake Robert Lofgran, Kent Olsen and Gregory Foikes will leave Salt Lake City, Friday, July 10, to attend the National Scout Jamboree. They will enjoy a day or so before the gigantic Jamboree at Valley Forge, and will tour Church historical landmarks, following the jamboree. They will also visit the World's Fair in New York before returning home. Mr. McKnew suffered a bad . bum on one of his hands. Martha Burton, Juab County Public Health Nurse gave him first aid before they left for California. Miniature parade planned here childrens Primary parade will be held on Thursday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. The little pa- rade will leave the church and will go down Main Street and back up to the LDS Church. Children are invited to enter a float and participate in the parade. The little miniature parade is always worth watching, and It gives the little people a big. boost to see people lined along the parade route. Summer program well undervvay Summer recreation program, sponsored by the Girl Scouts, under the direction of Miss Marjorie Randle and Miss Sandra Butler is well under way. Meetings are being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 pjn., in the Lee Ryans class room at the high school. Hand work will be taught and games will be played during the class time. AH those interested are asked to call Miss Randle or Miss Butler. Mr. and Mre. Wilson Lee are vacationing at Fish Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cutler and four children of Palo Alto, Ctelif., left last week for their home. They spent a few weeks here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Pett. Mrs. Cutler and children came to Eureka for a visit while Mr. Cutler attended a special school in Ann Arbor, Mich., and made a trip to Switzerland, where he attended an Electronics Convention. He lectures and demonstragave tions on various phases of Electronic equipment Mrs. Cutler and one son, met him in Detroit on his return from Switzerland, where they purchased a new car, to make the trip to Eureka. During their stay here they spent a few days in Sandy with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Hopes. Plenty of firemen and some parents were on hand to care for the little people (and incidentally to get a free ride on the trucks).
