Show December 8, 1961 THE EUREKA (UTAH) REPORTER 9th birthday calls for party cla Mrs. Ted Haynes entertained at a children's party last Sunday afternoon honoring her son, Teddy, on the occasion of his 9th birthday anniversary.' The party was held at the Memorial Building. The young people were entertained with several games of Bingo and the rooms were made festive with Christmas decorations. This modem electrical age we enjoy has made living simpler and pleasant; makes savory food for a crowd quick and easy to prepare. One of the great American entertaining pastimes is as well the picnic, and it can be a fall football game follow-u- p as a summer delight with the aid of an electric frill. Broil juicy hamburgers and frankfurters, basting them with d barbecue sauce kept warm on the grill shelf. Serve a with a hot, German-styl- e potato salad, buttered buns, and mugs of chilled, refreshing beer. Beer Barbecue Sauce 2 tablespoons lemon juice 34 cup beer 1 cup chili sauce 2 tablespoons vinegar 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Keep hot on griddle shelf of broiler, using to baste hamburgers and frankfurters during grilling. Yield: Approximately 2 cups. Hot Potato Salad 1 tablespoon sugar 6 medium potatoes (about 2 pounds) cup beer or ale 6 slices bacon teaspoon Tabasco Butter or margarine teaspoon celery seed 1 tablespoon chopped 34 cup finely chopped onion 2 teaspoons salt parsley 2 tablespoons flour Cook potatoes in skins until tender. Peel and slice. Cook bacon in skillet until crisp; drain and crumble. Measure bacon drippings and add butter or margarine, if necessary, to make 34 cup. Saute onion in drippings until tender, but not brown. Stir in salt, flour and sugar; stir to a smooth paste. Gradually add beer and Tabasco. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Pour over potatoes; sprinkle with celery seed and parsley; mix lightly with fork. After cards the hostess served a delicious lunch to those named and to Mrs. Frank McCabe, Mrs. Darrell Franks, Mrs. Ted Johnson, Mrs. Ray Badertscher and Mrs. Paul Mrs. Anna Franks entertains club Worthy Matron Marion Nash presided at the Monday night Mrs. Anna Franks entertained the members of the Five Hundred club at her home on Wednesday of last week. After the completion of the card games, the hostess served a delicious lunch to members, Mrs. Alice Peart, Mrs. Jean Giles, Mrs. Lova Jones, Mrs. Alliene Farren, Mrs. Minnie Painter, Mrs. Ada Sorensen, and the special guests, Mrs. Rhoda Bell and Mra Minnie Ladies of Elks plan party Adele Nebeker, Connie Underwood, Randy Thornton, Mike and Valerie Bird, Launa Lee Allinson, Ricky and Larry Chambers, Wirth Sanderson and Jenny Lynne Taylor. Assisting Mrs. Haynes in entertaining and serving were Julie Ann Cartwright, Rose Ann Ferris and Gertie Ann Bray. Modem Mrs. Club met last Wednesday evening at the homo of Mrs. J. A. Bernini. Bridge was the evenings diversion, and prizes were won by Mrs. Gerald Drussell, Mrs. Henry Wall and Mrs. Curtis OES appoints new committees meeting of Tintic Chapter No. 18, order of Eastern Star. She was assisted by Worthy Patron, Lloyd Randle. Various committees were appointed to serve for the coming year. Plans were made for the visit of the Grand Lecturer of the Grand chapter, OES cf Utah, Ireta Irvine. She will visit the local Chapter at the next meeting on Dec. 18th. Plans were also made for the annual Christmas party to be held on Dec. 18, when members will exchange gifts, and a program will be presented. After chapter meeting closed, refreshments were served by Marion and Floyd Nash. banked with miniature Christmas trees, Some of the refreshments were in the Christmas motif, and cookies were made to form stars and Christmas trees. Favors were small boots filled with candles, all day suckers, candy canes and chocolate Santas. Teddys guests were Bobby Allinson, Kathy Berry, Pam Brady, Charlie Butler, Carla Dean, Flint Evans, Janet Hansen, JoLyn Jameson, Laurie McCabe, Ramona McIntyre, at Page Three : servings. ' Needlecraft Newsc by Nancy Baxter Ladies of Elks met in regular session Tuesday evening in the Elks Lodge rooms. President Grace Bernini presided at the business session. Final plans were made for the annual party, which will be held Saturday evening. A social hour was enjoyed with Bridge furnishing the entertainment. Prizes were won by Mrs. Heber Cushing, Mrs. Wellings Schow and Mrs. Geo. Finch. Mrs. Elden Nelson, hostess for the evening, served tasty refreshments. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Bert Ferguson and daughter Mary Ellen were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests at the home of Mrs. V. J. Sullivan in Salt Lake. Mrs. Sullivan is the former Beulah Byrne, daughter of Mrs. Ruby Byrne. Other family members at the dinner were Mrs. Byrne, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Byrne, and the Sullivans daughter, Peggy Rae. Mr. Ferguson and Mary Ellen returned to Eureka on Friday, and Mary Ellen left for Salt Lake on Sunday to resume her studies at Westminster College. Gillespie. Prize winners were Mrs. Peart, Mrs. Sorensen and Mrs. Bell. Mrs. Dean Rose Mammoth hostess The Five Hundred club met last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Dean Rose in Mammoth. A delicious luncheon was served at 1:00 p.m., followed by an afternoon of cards. Members attending were Mrs. Wm. Paxman, Mrs. Oscar Erickson, Mrs. Brennan Hannifin, Mrs. Ronald Bray, Mrs. Melvin Hansen and Mrs. Harold Sorensen. Prizes were won by Mrs. Paxman, Mrs. Erickson, Mrs. Hannifin and Mrs. Bray. Home Craft club travels to Mammoth The Home Craft club met last Friday afternoon in Mammoth at the home of Mrs. Bessie Toone. Luncheon was served at 1:00 p.m., and the afternoon was spent in exchanging ideas on Christmas suggestions, and the making of holiday gifts. Members attending were Vola Nevers, Agnes Clement, Florence Fields, Georgia Laird, Myrtle Pett, and a special guest, Lily Erickson. Mrs. Curtis Butler and family spent last Saturday in Provo, where they combined business and pleasure. The more a man denies himself, the more he shall obtain from God. Horace.
