As little as two or three fingernail-size chips of paint daily over a period of two or three months is enough to make a toddler dangerously ill. The Department of Health, Education and Welfare estimates that as many as 400,000 children either have lead poi- -' soning or are carrying around enough lead in their systems to place them in Jeopardy. Of these, 100 to 200 will die. Hundreds more will suffer mental retardation severe enough to place them in institutions for life. Thousands may be left with such aftereffects as cerebral palsy, learning and behavioral problems, epilepsy and blindness. The best solution to lead poisoning is prevention. Lead must be eradicated from the child's environment. Simply painting over old paint may not solve the problem. New layers can peel, pulling with them the hazardous old paint beneath. ma Q) QQ) QQQ) Mr. and Mrs. Garth Remington and family of Salt take visited Monday and Tuesday with Garth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Remington.
