Parent Council works tutoring program on The agenda of the Duchesne Title 1 Parent Advisory Council meeting on Jan. 19, included a report by Betty FUlinglm on the tutorial program at Myton Elementary School. As a parent volunteer Mra. Fllllnglm spends two afternoons each week tutoring students on a basis under the direction of Rosella Johnson, School Reading Specialist. She has been trained In the use of a tutorial system designed to supplement the Macmillan Reading Program being used by the classroom teachers. Members In attendance at the meeting assisted In preparing textbooks for use in other schools as more volunteers become available. Participants were told that better and more responsive educational programs are possible when parents and leaders of the coraiunlty contribute directly to the planning and Implementation of those programs. Bureau of Indian Affairs superintendents and tribal leaders are convening In Phoenix, Arlz., this week. In attendance from the U & O Reservation are Irene Cuch, Wilbur Cuch and Fred Conetah, members of the Ute Business Committee as well as Superintendent Bill Streltz. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Cuch were visiting last weekend from Salt Lake City. They were the guests of his father, Jason Cuch, as well as her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Ignacio and his aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Albert La Rose. Little Gina Slxklller celebrated her third birthday Monday with a family dinner at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Slxklller. Helen Wash, a student at the University of Utah, Salt lake City, was visiting in the Fort Duchesne area over the weekend. Also home for the weekend was Diane Valverde, student at Westminister College, Salt lake. Barry Thompson Is spending two weeks at Orem taking additional training for his position In the office of the State Roads Department, Duchesne. Ute students have returned to boarding school after spending the Christmas holiAt Phoenix days with their families. Mrs. Livingston introduced teachers to materials she had developed to reinforce Programmed Reading. Mrs. Livingston and Mrs. Doldge also supervised the teachers In developing these materials for their own use In their classrooms. Mrs. Doldge gave a demonstration with pupils on some effective ways of teaching Programmed reading. Mr. and Mrs. Blayne Morrill was called back to Salt lake Sunday to the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. Davis Morrill, Tridell. Crazier and Kent Bastlan accompanied the Seminary to Provo Saturday for a tour of the new LDS Temple. They also enjoyed swimming and bowling.
