Alcoholism fund okeyed for coming year The Ute Indian Tribe Alcoholism Information and Counseling program has been funded for the next year. The Busl-n- es Committee passed on the budget during early July. Their action by the Tribal Business Committee establishes a first for Indian Tribes across the Nation. Other tribes have recognized the need for such a program and several have programs In operation. However, none are supported soley by the Tribe such as the Ute Tribe alcoholism program. One of the advantages of tribal backing is that the people employed In the program are working for the tribe, according to Mr. Brown director. The result Is hopeful a development of program goals and activities that fit the needs of the people as seen by tribal leaders. S also means that it is a pro gram which belongs to everyone A "Ute on the reservation. Indian," Alcoholism program, It Is not a Federal Government This should result program. in greater pride In the people of this reservation In their elected Business Committee members who are developing programs and activities which will benefit the people, at least those who choose totake advantage of these things. Mrs. RDean Lauritzen gets appointment Mrs. RDean Lauritzen, Lapoint, has chosen to sit on the State board of Trustees of the Policy advisory committee for the Head Start program. She Is one of four women on this committee. Mrs. Lauritzen moved Into the Head Start program last year as a volunteer parent. She was chosen to be chairman of the policy advisory committee which meets each month at the State Capitol. She will attend the next seminar being held In Salt Lake City Aug, 12 and 13. She moved Into the Head Start Program last year as a volunteer parent when one of her youngsters was enrolled In the Head Start school. ten Meadows, N. Y.
