Show Uintah Basin Standard Tlium., Jan. 6. 1900 Fur S BLUEBELL by Garda Seeley f Mr. Lucille Winkler accompanied her aiater, Mrs. Kivu g of Vernal and her brother, Porter Merroll of Duchesne to Provo on Wednesday to attend the funeral services of their nephew's little 2'i n.enth elC dauRhter, Mary Merrell who died suildenly at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Merrell in Inglewood, Calif. Dallas's parents are Victor and Beatrice Merrell of Mokck Lake, Washington and they were in attendance at the funeral. The Bluebell Relief Society had a Christmas party during the holidays. Gifts were exchanged. games were played and the ladies enjoyed singing Christmas Carols and to the following program: story by Ber-nec- e Atwood; song by Shana Lee Winkler and jokes by Marie Roper. A light lunch was served to all. Alan-wurin- rich and daughter Laurie of SLC spent the holidays here with Ralph's parents, the Owen Goodrich's. They hrought Ann and Carol Goodrich home from SL where they spent the week visiting with relatives. He is one of the oldest citizens left in this community. He came with his father when he was around 12 years old, before the Basin was opened to see about the Rhoades mine, whirh was his grandfathers. Before moving out here he lived at Helper, the family raised garden produce which they sold to the miners. When he was 2 years old he burned his hands and leg very bad when he fell Into a tub of boiling wash water. They didn't think he could live. It left his right hand almost shut. In the spring of 1906 the family moved to Hanna. They lived in a one room cabin which was located on his lirotlier pluce, A. Foster Rhoades. They made the first ditch which i still called the Rhoades ditch, along with the usual upbuilding of a new town.
