Show THE CITIZEN TOMMY THOMPSON POPULAR AT AIRPORT Meet A. R. (Tommy) Thompson of the Thompson Flying Service. Tommy Thompson, as he is better known, is winning quite a name for himself throughout the intermountain region as a trainer and flyer. : 1 his commission from Uncle Sam he remained in Texas approximately ten months, teaching others how to do what he had learned. Since the war . Tommy has been flying all over the United States, mostly down South, however, training students, putting on exhibitions, and taking passengers on short or long trips. For the past five years he has been operating a school in Salt Lake, training students, carrying passengers, and giving public demonstrations. He is in Ogden today with three Thompson Flying Service planes. On the Fourth the people of Idaho Falls will have an opportunity to witness some of his flying feats, as well as those of Lieut. Russell L. Maughan. Logan has engaged him for the 24th. Local citizens and visitors are keeping him busy making long trips. Early in the month Tom Kearns and party flew with him to Boise. Last week he flew with John Browning, son of the gun inventor, E. G. Bennett, and Walter Hansen, Mayor of Boise. 19 STUDENTS SOLOED THIS YEAR There are approximately fifty students attending the Thompson Flying Service school all the time. Mr. Thompson has soloed 19 students this year. Some take 3 2 hours solo and some 10 hours, but the average time is 5 5 to 6 hours. The cost for the complete course is only $375.00. Fear has been expressed from several quarters that there are not enough students in training to fill the demand for trained men, which is constantly increasing. Mr. Thompson is certainly doing his part, however, in this respect. He is not only highly efficient as a flyer, but is a splendid trainer and a good business man, qualifications which are largely responsible for his success.
