Show THE CITIZEN 10 WJ TROUT FISHING OPENS JUNE 15 Hundreds of Fishermen Ready to Whip Streams of State on Opening Day YJJHEKE ARE. YOU going fishing on June 15, the opening day ? This is the most important question in Utah today, and even the national Republican and Democratic conventions are sidetracked in discussions. The streams are high and a majority of them will be off color for fly fishing, although the spinner ought to make a hit with the trout in the murky streams. In the northern part of the state we have the Logan river, which will be clear enough for fly fishing, and where many of the boys are headed for. Nearby is Blacksmith's Fork, another good stream. Some of the tributaries of the Bear river ought to afford good fishing, especially if one goes to Wyoming and travels east and then back into Utah. This is a country not much fished by Utahns, and there are plenty of fish in that part of the section. The Ogden river and Lost creek ought to be in fair condition for the opening, and with the recent plantings, good catches ought to be had in those streams. The Weber river is high, although at the head there may be some fly fishing, while lower down, or this side of Oakley, bait fishing will be the proper thing. Silver Creek has killed fishing below Wanship, and there few fish will be caught, notwithstanding that the water is high. The Provo river is high and off color. No doubt several hundred fishermen wil line the banks of this stream from Utah lake to the very head. The stream has been well stocked and there ought to be fish for everybody on the opening day. Daniels canyon has not been much good since the fish were cut off from the Strawberry, although there are a few stragglers in the creek. Current creek is closed this year and there will be no fishing there until July 1, when the Strawmerry opens. The lakes in the Uintah mountains will open July 15. The streams in this county will be off color and bait will be the best bet. Fish lake opens June 15 and a great many are going down there for the opening. Fishing in Panguitch lake will be good this year, and there are several streams in that part of the country, where good fishing can be had. Hobble creek, near Springville, may be good for the opening. Then there are several streams running into the Spanish Fork river that may be good. The Diamond usually is a good stream on the opening day. Getting nearer to this city, East Canyon may be it this year, although there was not much there last year. Utah streams will be somewhat relieved by the great number of sportsmen who are going to Idaho and Wyoming to fish. The opening day comes on Friday morning at 4 oclock, and with Saturday and Sunday to go the streams will get a whipping seldom recorded. Lets go fishing! A Dandy Catch open on the 15th, but the Cottonwood lakes are closed to July 1. Parley's, Mill Creek and Big Cottonwood will be clear enough for fly fishing, but down in the valleys the streams will Three Salt Lake sportsmen who worked overtime landing some of the big ones at Fish Lake last season... They are from left to right: Frank Smith, C. M. Diehl and Commissioner Chas. N. Fehr... Commissioner Madsen says fishing will be better this year than ever at this place and a 'large number of the boys contemplate making their initial trip to Fish Lake June 15, the opening day. One morning last. fall a party of Salt Lake sportsmen boarded a Union Pacific train and stopped at the dam this side of Yellowstone for a fishing trip and the picture herewith shows what they caught... There were ten fishedmen in the party and each caught his limit the first day out... The Union Pacific takes you into the very heart of the best fishing in Idaho, and those who wish to make fishing trips can get all fishing information desired at the Union Pacific offices of this city. |
