Guards Home. There are a number of Canadian Honkers nesting now they are the only wild geese we will have who will nest away from the northland. The lady does the sitting and the gander stands guard. If you approach the nest he meets you with lowered wings and lays down the law to you in no uncertain terms. As a guardian of his home he sets an example for many of our gentleman friends. Last year a very unusual thing happened having settled in a Mormon community, our friend from the north decided to try managing more than one household. Mrs. Canadian Honker No. 1 was already keeping the nest eggs warm when a fair young goose sauntered by her home. Our friend Mr. Gander immediately became interested and soon he was trying to protect two hearthsides; I use the term advisedly, for he indeed found himself between two fires. He had to stand on neutral ground, for no matter which wife he approached he found the other lady after' him, scolding, nagging, and browbeating him. Kept on Farm. These geese do not nest until they are three years of age, and each year have a brood of about seven goslings each. Their wings are clipped before they are strong enough to fly and so they remain at the Game Farm for always. Not that I think that a hardship, for the farm nestles at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, with Utah No more Lake in the foreground. beautiful nor ideal setting could be found. All the water for ponds, pools, etc., rises on the ten acre plot; the most wonderful clear spring water you could find. There we have the largest fish- - hatchery in the West. We' keep thirty thousand spawners there all the time. These are stripped of their eggs, and under the supervision of Mr. Witney, a real expert, approximately six million fingerling trout are planted in Utah streams from this hatchery each year. .It is from this farm that we expect to release ten thousand Ring Neck Pheasants this year. These birds are peculiar, too, very seldom will they nest in captivity. They drop their eggs most any place the inclination overtakes them. These eggs are carefully gathered, hatched in incubators, and the little ones cared for by broody hens. These cute little brown babies, tiny balls of animated down, grow rapidly and in the fall are released to satisfy our thirst to kill and appetite ily of live. Masculine egotism is vested in the male to the Nth. degree. He thinks every day is Easter Sunday, and is therefore on parade. His plumage is really gorgeous and in him perhaps we might justify said egotism. There are Deer, Valley Quail, for the delicious. Quail recently arrived from ArJack the Raven, unquestionably a kansas, and many other interesting descendant of Poes famous bird alspecies of wild life; but, here, you should meet Mr. Madsen who is re- though I did not hear him say Nevermore I feel sure belongs to the sponsible for all this in the hope of same family tree, with a most sincere improving hunting and fishing condilook in his eye, will say, Hello, tions and also in preserving for. future whatza the matter, huh? generations the wild life of this great i You should see the Peacocks, a fam country of ours.
