Clogston is to be commended for giving the people of this city a new theatre. The old Wilkes theatre has been completely Sfc wv S - remodelled and renovated and it has been turned into one of the most beautiful amusement theatres of the entire west. The theatre has been painted in and outside, with new decorations and blending colors pleasing to the eye. All the old seats have been torn out of the theatre and replaced with a modern theatre seat which provides every comfort to the patron. The inside lighting is a work of art. Beautiful hand painted shades difuses the light in a satisfying manner and tones up the entire surroundings. Manager Clogston says that he has done everything to provide for the comfort and the pleasure of the Wilkes patrons and they will surely appreciate his efforts when they see the new theatre. The official opening of the Wilkes Theatre will be tonight and a big crowd will be there to welcome Gladys . V' George, Ben Erway and the other members of the stock company, considered one of the best in the entire country. Many of last years players will be present and there will also be several new faces, and all of them good actors and well able to present any play that has been written. The Last of Mrs. Cheney, a big New York Broadway hit, and a play which appears to have been written especially for Miss George and Ben Erway, has been selected for the opening week. The return of Miss Gladys George, captivating leading lady; Ben Erway, versatile and popular leading man; Noel Leslie, Arthur Loft, Miss Fran-cho- n Everhart and Miss Daisy Del Wilcox suggests a delightful season of drama. Among the new faces will be found those of Miss Margaret Paver, who cames from the Denver Wilkes company; Miss Polly King of New York, Franklin Parker, talented juvenile man of Los Angeles; Frank Perry, who recently played the lead in All Gods Chillun Got Wings in Los Angeles; Richard Tracy, a former leading man idol in Denver, and Huron L. Blyden, who for the past year has o been directing plays for David in New York. There will be an evening performance every day at the Wilkes. Afternoon matinees will be held on Sundays, Thursday and Saturdays, excepting next Monday, when a special matinee will be held in order to accommodate the large demand for tickets. Bel-asc- umphs, Monday. Two weeks more remain of the engagement. Saturday, September 3, the popular revue Fran-ca- is will terminate what has been one of the longest runs for this style of exhibition, in Chicagos amusemyi' history. Following the Chicago engagement Gay Paree will inaugurate a tour that includes only the larger cities of the west. The entire Winter Garden production will be carried intact. This is the first time that an outfit of such magnitude has been sent upon a tour. It is the plan of the Shuberts, if the innovation proves financially successful, to send only full productions on tours in the future. It will play here at the Salt Lake Theatre. In setting aside fears that the erican theatre-goin- g public had not attained a degree of sophistication that would permit the presentation of a Parisian revue, with all its shades of spice and daring, the Fireres Shu-be- rt have reaped a golden harvest for their temerity. It is admitted that the summer run of Gay Paree has been financially the most prosperous ever enjoyed by a Shubert extravaganza in the windy city. Steamship agencies are authority for the statement that the sensational attraction has largely stimulated travel to the naughty French capital. Folks get a sample of what is to be expected in the Follies Bergere and Moulin Rouge in Gay Paree. Then they want to see the joyous Gallic city at first hand or, to be apropos, in the flesh. Ai' GAY PARTE IS COMING TO THE SALT LAKE THEATRE Gay Paree, a tenant of the Four Cohans, Chicago, for the past ten weeks, moves around the corner to the Garrick, the scene of its first tri Siberian Andrew Jukoff, citizen, recently arrived in Moscow to prove to bureaucrats his eligibility for an old age pension.
