Show THE CITIZEN I old southern gentleman, Colonel Howard, impoverished by the war, who has become poorer and poorer as the years have slipped by. Ills one great comfort is his love for his motherless daughter Ilabby, whom he adores. Mathew. Martin, a sort of modern Uriah Heap from the North, Is trying to maneuver the old man out of his old southern home or his daughter. He is aided and abetted by a maidenly sister, Matilda. Howard Emery, raised in the North, Is Mathews rival. The colonels love for his daughter is rivalled by the love of old Aunt Caroline, an old darkey mammy, the role to be played by Miss May Roberts, who has been with the family since the war. Old Aunt Caroline and her husband, Uncle George (George Cleveland), provide abundant comedy to relieve the pathos. The action of the play takes place on Colonel Howards tobacco and cotton plantation near Roanoke, Virginia, and Is truly a play of the old South. It provides a laugh and a tear. The action moves swiftly. During the action, a quartet composed, of Earl Martin, first tenor; Ronald Salt, second tenor; Leonard Strong, first bass, and Harold will sing some sweet melodies as they impersonate darkey cotton pickers. The Sweetest Girl in Dixie will be played every night next week with matinees Thursday and Saturday. .
