Has the foreigner displaced the American thought and established a complex in which the real American is forced to drift far from our form of government? In years gone by, this country was not only the dumping ground for all foreigners, but these foreigners would congregate in various parts of the country and establish themselves in secluded communities where even our language was tabooed. They established their own newspapers, printed in their own language, celebrated foreign holidays, and in every way prompted the ideas and customs of .their fatherland. In fact some of these communities, their American born children could only talk in their native tongue, with no thought given to English. This condition was allowed, or rather tolerated, until the recent World War, .when stricter legislation, was enacted, and our present immigration laws are holding down to some extent the foreign influx, which if continued unmolested would have completely changed the form of our government. We are now feeling the effects of this foreign invasion and already our thoughts are turned to the welfare of Europe in preference to our own. When the United States senators voted to become a member of the World Court, that was the first step taken in favor of European ideas, and is a step leading awap from the Constitution of the United States. Hardly a week passes but what some hatred and jealousy crips out among foreign nations. Ordinarily, the insults hurled at Germany during the past week by Mussolini would have resulted in an immediate apology or war, and many of the prominent men of the world now proclaim this big headed' Italian as being a menace to world peace. However, these are the kind of people we must meet and deal with in the World Court, and if anyone thinks for a moment that this nation could make any headway with such men as Mussolini, then they are not students of history, or they have some proposition to put through with which the people are not familiar, and they care little as to the welfare of America. France is carrying on two wars and England and Turkey are wrangling over some territory which Turkey claims, but over which England holds a mandate. Switzerland and Russia are hurling defies back and forth and making all kinds of charges, all of which places the entire European continent into a turmoil which no one can straighten out. Our entry is only asked to be on the side of one or the other and the moment we take sides, that moment we make enemies. Remember Abraham Lincolns immortal words, With malice toward none; with charity for all." We cannot believe that we have senators who think the people are so stupid as to believe that we can harmonize our interests with peon ples whom we are barring frim our shores through our present laws. Our present law to the foreigner who wishes to come to America is like a red flag waved in the face of an infuriated bull. The disarmament conference was set for next Monday, Febfor exruary 15. The United States Senate appropriated $50,000 in Europe penses to attend this conference, but the present war talk immi-grerco- has changed the entire program and the conference has been set ahead to May 15. It is well known in European circles that under present conditions that have arisen recently in Europe during the past thirty days, that the conference would prove an absolute failure. Every nation over there is likened to a big prize fighter who is sparring for an opening to deliver a knockout punch to the solar plexus. But our international Americans over here tell us that we can do a world of good. The only good we see that we can do over there is to furnish more money to build greater war machines. Have our pepple already forgotten with what a glad heart the late President Wilson left our shores for Europe to bring about world peace, and what a mockery his meeting with the European statesmen must have been? The President had drafted fourteen articles which were endorsed unanimously by America, to which President Wilson asked the European nations to adhere to, if they wished to promote world peace. What became of those fourteen articles? Oneby one as they were read by our President, the Europeans rejected and relegated to the waste basket, and yet we have some with us here who would txy to make us believe that Europeans want to do the right thing. They do, as long as the right thing" pertains to their own selfish interests, but when it comes to the interest of humanity, that is another question with which none of the European nations are acquainted and never will be. The freemen all came to this country and they established our present form of government. The Kaisers' and Mussolinis remained in Europe and they are still fighting for the plunder" among themselves. They will never take our advice upon any of their political questions. President Wilson tested them out at a time when one would think the war ridden nations would subscribe to almost anything to prevent future wars, but still waddling about in their own blood" they absplutely refused to listen to reason. Their League of Nations and half a world court are established for a purpose and that is to get us in a position where they can dictate our future international policies for their own benefit, and sorry to say there are some here who are willing to sacrifice this country. The League of Nations was not Wilsons idea. He went over there with fourteen points" and in lieu thereof, the European politicians sprung the league upon him. He tried to get out as gracefully as he could but his trust in foreign mankind must have been n greatly shaken and he returned to the United States a man. He plainly saw that Europe did not want peace; her actions today plainly shows that she does not want peace, and she is fast setting the stage for another big war. Let us keep out of any wars started in Europe. heart-broke- The French recently killed 100 Syrian rebels in a battle in the caves, again proving what a good thing a mandate is for any country. |
