Show THE CITIZEN 8 after the war period of the 70s. It is the time when the great republic, having weathered the storm of war, is setting sail for further adventures. This thrilling pioneer picture will be shown at the Paramount Empress theatre for one week commencing today. Irvin Willat, producer of Wanderer of the Wasteland, has caught the glamour and fascination of his remarkable period of our history perfectly in North of 36 no less perfectly than did Emerson Hough, who wrote both the novels North of 36 and "The On the same wide-flun- g Covered Wagon. plan on which The Covered Wagon vas produced, Willat has pic turized the story of Taisie Lockhait (Lois Wilson),. girl rancher, who has inherited the greatest herd of cattle in Texas. How Taisie, to avert poverty, drives her gigantic herd North, Jim aided by her ranch foreman Nabours (Ernest Torrence) and a certain handsome mysterious stranger Dan McMasters (Jack Holt), is harassed at every turn by the villainous Rudabaugh (Noah Beery) and his cohorts, by Indians, stampedes, raging rivers, and all sorts of perils, and finally fights through to victory, Is unfolded in a picture that will thrill Americans to the very marrow! CLONINGER TO GIVE WILKES PATRONS SOMETHING FUNNY. The funniest show I ever saw is Ralph Cloningers commentary on Some Baby, next weeks rejuvenating farce at the "Wilkes theatre, starting Sunday night. Under two names, Some Baby and The Elixir of Youth the play had long runs in New York City, where it was declared by the New York World to be the most popular infant in that city and it must be conceded there are some babies in New York. Early in the action another critic says, You begin to smile, then you giggle and progress to hearty laughter and are finally seized with an irresistible desire to roar and you do. The story concerns the age old quest for youth. An aged scientist performs experiments with a concoction which he hopes will restore youth to all who take it as prescribed. The quest for an elixir of youth has been on since the world began and is still on having now reached the monkey gland stage. The application of the scientists youth restoring concoction to an old general and the scientists young and pretty daughter is followed so quickly by such a maze of wonderful happenings that the professor seems warranted in the belief that his discovery is Indeed a wonder worker. The love affair of the daughter and her fiance are involved in an intricate set of complications which also swoop down upon others including the chief of police and a young Spanish girl. Some Baby is an hilarious farce with decidedly fast action while the repartee is quick lire inciting continuous merriment: Its lines are witty and clever, winning for the authors, Zel-la- h Covington and Jules Simonson, fame as playwrights. Miss Anne Berryman as the daugh ter of the experimenting professor and Ralph Cloninger as her fiance will be excellently cast as will Victor Jory. George Cleveland, Harry Jordan, Victor Gillard, Miss May Roberts, Miss Norma Deane and others. GARDEN OF WEEDS AT VICTORY. for the screen from the stage play by Leon Gordon and Doris Marquette. Its an appealing love drama which brings audiences back stage at the theatre CLONINGER AND BERRYMAN STAR AT WILKES THEATRE. ALL STAR CAST IN One of the finest casts ever seen in pictures appears in James Cruzes latest production for Paramount, The Garden of Weeds, which will be the feature at the Victory theatre today for a run of one week. Betty Compton, whose recent dramatic successes have won her new plaudits, is starred. The story affords Miss Compton a marvelous opportunity for the display of her dramatic ability. Warner Baxter, who supported Miss Compton in The Female, comes back to Paramount for a featured role with her in The Garden of Weeds. He is featured with Rockcliffe Fellowes, Charles Ogle and A1 St. John, all sterling actors chosen for their ability to portray the characters depicted in the Tess of the Storm Country, which concludes tonight with a matinee this afternoon at the Wilkes theatre is a credit to Ralph Cloninger and his famous stock company of players. The role for the dainty leading lady, Miss Anne Berryman, was filled to perfection and Ralph Cloninger in the role of a clergyman carries the real heavy part of the play, ably and well supported by Victor Jory, George Cleve- - land, Victor Gillard, Harry Jordan, Miss May Roberts, Miss Norma Deane and others who had to be added to the cast. The scenery was beautiful, showing-fresh water lake surrounded by Qr green and wooded hills which gives the play an added thrill. Tess (Anne Berryman) is a wild, rough little girl of the woods, who knows little of life outside of her narrow circle of acquaintances, the squatters, yet whose heart is so big she readily assumes the responsibility of the erring daughter of the millionaire father of the Rev. Frederick Graves (Ralph Cloninger). Tess loves the minister in the face of his doubts as to her respectability and she endures a i!li:iiiliili;iiiiiiliiiiiliiliiliilllliiliiliiliiliiliiliiliillllilllllluQ?' m All Next Week Starting Sunday Night I WILKES !
