An augmented company is necessary to produce the play. Ralph Cloninger did not play this week in order personally to supervise the building. of the elaborate scenery and to devote his time to rehearsals and study. He promises a worthwhile production, one that he can recommend. The story of Tess is well known. This half clad, wild little creature who knows little of life except that she finds among the squatters, proves to be a wonderfully human person after all. How she' throws herself Into the breach when the daughter of the minister errs at the expense of her reputation and at the risk of losing the man she loves', bearing torture rather than yield up the secret, provides one of the most gripping and thrilling of stories which when made into a play won laurels for Rupert Hughes as a playwright. Mr. Cloninger arranged for the presentation in response to numerous requests from Wilkes patrons who regard Miss Berryman as an ideal type for the role of Tess. Always anxious to give patrons what they like, Mr. Cloninger procured the play for presentation and is giving it a splendid mounting.
