Show THE CITIZEN NOTICE TO CREDITORS. MERCHANT MARINE. Washington, t Sept. 29. (Special correspondence.) The Harding policy of continuing the operation of the American merchant marine, even if it must be done by the government, is being pursued by the present administration. It is acknowledged that the government cannot hope to operate the ships as cheaply .or as efficiently as private operators would do, but in the absence of any better plan, the government will operate the ships rather than yield our ocean transportation to our commercial rivals. Whenever, opportunity offers and a fair price can be had, the shipping board is selling government owned ships, but with the guarantee that they will be operated in the American foreign trade for a period of at least five years. We hate to think what the price of farm products would be at this time if all the American laborers were not employed at good wages. They are sure consuming a lot of meat products. Columbus (la.)
