Show THE CITIZEN Ideas and learning and experiences man this has encompassed in one short lifes span. Such a condition was the result, or reward, of the endless quest for satisfaction, that some-ything which goads intelligent men ever ' onward. ' He describes his life thus, It is 'the 'story of an unquiet soul who' voyaged from city to 'city, county to county, in search of something, he knew not what. The golden grapes of desire were never plucked, the marvelous mirage of the Seven Arts never overtaken; the antique and beautiful porches of philosophy, the solemn temples of religion never penetrated. Life has been the Barmecides feast to me you remember the Arabian Nights no sooner did I covet a rare dish than fate whisked it out of my reach. He did not reach his ultimate goal, no man could who wandered through life making of the faraway stars his goal, but life granted him great satisfaction in his endless purg f) suit. We have spoken briefly of most of the books of this man, but his name will live or die according to his critical judgments, and most of those judgments were sound. And as he could select his men, so could he aptly place them with the right word here and the right word there. No critic in this country has controlled such a brilliant, and at the same time curious and He bizarre vocabulary as was his. was a Irishman, a royal friend and raconteur. His books will live on, and each year with added lustre; his accomplished work was colossal, yet somehow I feel that James Gibbons Huneker died too young. We could ill afford to lose him. big-hearte- d The public meeting and entertainment provided for by the Young Mens Republican club has been postponed to next Wednesday, May 16, because of the inability of Senator Reed Smoot to arrive from Washington before that date. New-hous- Marie, seven years old, was being washed, and was uttering her custom- ary protests. she said earnestly, that I need never have to be washed again. "Im afraid, replied her mother gently, that as long as you have me to take care of you, youll have to make up your mind to be washed thoroughly every day. Marie considered this problem for a moment.
