Editor, of The Citizen: Having always been a pronounced enemy of nepotism, I may be excused for wanting to ke6p my record clear. Your attention is called to erroneous and misleading statements in your issue of May 1st, concerning myself, which have just been brought to my notice. Assuming that you desire to be fair, and not altogether partisan, I am taking the liberty of calling your attention to the truth. You say I have been a candidate for office frequently, including several times for congress, once for mayor." I never was in any degree whatever a candidate for either of the places named, though 1 was the Democratic candidate twice for governor and once for United States senator, when the prospects were not particularly alluring. I did not seek the office I now hold. You say that I used my politcal prestige to secure positions for my sons Henry and Walter. Not in the remotest way did I have anything whatever to do with either of their appointments. You could easily learn from the former U. S. district attorney, W. W. Ray, and his successor, Mr. Evans, that what I say as to Henry is a fact. I advised Henry that the cultivation of the private practice which he had been fortunate in obtaining was worth more than any office which he could obtain. As soon as Walter was admitted to practice law, I induced him to take the civil service examination for the humble position of law clerk, and urged him to accept a minor position in the income tax division of the internal revenue for the purpose of becoming proficient in that important branch of his profession, and which would at the same time enable him to be with the family for the first time L years because of his long absence in the army and at school. Senator King, being interested in the boy and knowing of an appointment in the department of justice which paid a much better salary and which hau a much higher-soundintitle, advised Walter to accept the same and he did so, notwithstanding my advice to the cong trary. My position here has enabled me to assist many, both Republicans and Democrats, but not my own boys, both of whom were in most hazardous divisions of the army. I did it make the slightest effort to aid either when their lives were involved. I am proud in the belief that they would have resented it if I had. JAMES H. MOYLiii. HE SHOULD WORRY. "Do you want a lawyer Magistrate: to defend you? Prisoner: "Not particularly, sir." Well, what do you Magistrate: propose to do about the case? Prisoner: "Oh, I'm quite willing to drop it as far as Pm concerned." of September, A. IX 1920. HELENA FR1TSC1I PENNER, Executrix of List Will and Testament of Francis Frltsch, Deceased.
