He is tall and awkward and never smiles, even when responding: to encores. He sits on a dining room chair and claws out with arms, which, for reach, would make Jack Dempsey envious. His fingers are like steel ramrods and when he hits the keys they cry for mercy. He plays the most difficult classical selections with marvellous ease and grace, even doing Lucia with his left hand only. Once Kharum descended to a little hokum, but, for the most part, he remained on the icy peaks of the classical. It is a brilliant bill, but the most attractive feature of all is A Song Romance by Amelia Stone and Arman Kaliz, a refined parlor vaudeville of song and dance. It is not so much the song, the dance and the gorgeous setting as. it is the style, or what is called nowadays, the class of Monsieur Kaliz and Miss Stone that gives the act its fascination. Sweeties is a song farce which tells the story of an American girl who engaged herself to three departing heroes who go to France and then return on a furlough to tell her they were engaged to Marcelline, a pretty French girl. Meantime the American girl has become really, truly engaged to a French officer who was the original fiance of Marcelline. It is a quaint idea that furnishes much amusement and some good singing.
