Its a far cry from the full skirts, wasp waists and leg of mutton years ago, but we have traveled also a long d from the way gas wagon of 11)00 to the motors speeding over our highways today. A quarter of a century ago there was one automobile for every nine thousand five hundred people in the United States. Ten years ago there was one automobile for every thirty-thre- e people, while today the h motor population is as large as the human population or one car to every six people. This rapid growth has put the auto as foremost among American industries, but it has also produced a fearful menace to the public. A vigorous campaign of public education must be pushed if annual rate fatalities are to be reduced from twenty-tw- o thousand. sleeves of Judge Building, Salt Lake City two-cylind- er high-powere- NEW LAW PUZZLES In Carbon Oonnty and Shipped Everywhere Mined WOMAN MAKES CATALOGUE OF ALL THE STARS Properties At State and County Officials Each Are Up In the Air Standardvtlle, Utah The new stale bounty law, which may soon be put into practical effect since there is a balance accruing in the state fund alxive all claims, pres- 3 SEVERAL OF THE BEST SHOWING AT UNIVERSITY of the best paintings Twenty-fiv- e from the Winters exhibition of the National Academy of Design and valued at over thirty thousand dollars have been obtained for a temporary exhibition in Salt Lake City and are being shown until Februrary 8th at the University of Utah. Youll Get Extra Good Profits With Extra Good Printing ents an interesting puzzle, which was the other day passed up to Harvey H. ('luff, attorney general, by John E. Holden, state auditor. So long as the present prices for fur pelts are maintained it is passible that the law is a dead letter. Tho law requires that before the hunter may rlaim inanity he must turn the whole polt over to the county clerk to be forwarded to the state board of agriculture, which will sell the same, returning the proceeds to the state bounty fund. The pelt, it is specifically stated, must be in saleable condition when it goes into the clerks hands. If the pelts are saleable as furs they are unually worth more as such than the amount of the bounty. In certain seasons, including times when A he hunting is easiest and the destruction greatest, that is, while the young are unable to care for themselves, the pelts are not commercially valuable at least as furs. Cluff is axked hy 1 Holden whether the use in the law of the word saleable prohibits county clerks from accepting xIts during the time of the year when they are in no condition for sale or may the clerks accept the Mlts with an understanding that the state auditor must issue the warrant on the Imunty fund, irrespective of the condition of the pelt. The question is asked because more than one county clerk has been seeking instructions of the state auditor on this point in the law.
