O. Davie and Charlea A. Speery, in the Tabernacle grounds yesterday morning. The men were taken to the police mat ion where they were afterward Identified by two victim, who declared that the men had worked the lock trick game on them during the week. When the men were arrested. Henry was found to be In possession of a detective's badge, and a net of the minature locks used to work the lock trick. Among other things found in hi possession was n bogus fulled Staten coin, made to deceive a person Into the Idea that it was a $5 gold piece. The coin Is not like any ever issued by the United States government. If is of n light metal, finely plated with gold. Many complaints had been made to the police during the week of a gang (rf clever and slippery confidence men who had been victimising tourists in the Tabernacle grounds. All efforts to catch the men failed. They were apparently too clever for the police. Patrolmen Sperry and Davies were detailed on special work to locate these men and bring them In. They disguised themselves as gentlemen and went, to the grounds. Their disguises were so perfect that the alleged confidence workers did not suspect that tjiejr were policemen. After a time the suspicions of the grafters were aroused and they separated. Sperry and Davies followed and nailed the mem. When the first search of Haney was made, the police found $21. He was then taken to the detective' room and 'frisked," and $150 In gold and banknotes wia found concealed In the cuff of hie cost under the lining. When he was searched the policemen found a detective's badge and a pair of small locks, similar to those with which the time honored and ancient lock trick" has been worked tor numerous years. Carlisle was not such n gold mine for the police. He had but n few dollars, and a gold watch. But In a note book which he carried, the police found considerable information that will be of use to them. Carlisle says that he Is 38 years old. He Is five feet five or six inches In height, wears a black mustache, and is fairly well dressed. The police believe these men have been working In conjunction with n the large gang that ha been Infesting city for several days. They are of the opinion that they and . Charles Chapmen, alias Allison, who was arrested Friday, are members of the same gang. Carlisle says that hla wife la In the city, but he has refused to tell the police who she Is or where she may be found. He also had n scalper's ticket from Helena, 'made out in the name of Emil Oberg. Charles Chapman, alias AlUaon, was arrested Friday Afternoon by .Patrolman Preece, and was charged with vagrancy. Efforts will be made to connect him with' several cases of swindling that have been reported during the last few days. Chapmans former residence, he says, la Tacoma and Portland, tend he is aaid to be one of n gang that has come down here from the Puget Sound country to make a clean up before the Portland fair begins. Among Chapmans effects was the old bunko game of tlvoll. There wma also a book containing the name of every bank cashier in America, and also a large number of checks and drafts that the police say are bogus. . fredmnyeco 2413 UP. . i Men's Diseases, Piles, Rapture and all Blood Diseases Taken on a positive guarantee to cure or return every dollar of i your money, tunnel said yester.iy tht,y the first had not been dru.-- through yet, regardless of contiary report.
