This plant was first started in 1890 with the Incorporation of the Decker Drew-in& Malting company, G. L. Decker, president; A. K. Becker, vice president, and J. 8. Decker, secretary. Since the opening of the comparatively small plant of the company, only eighteen years ago, ita progress and Improvement haa been far in exeesa of the developments of a great many sections of the state. Duildlngs have lieen added, additions and Improvements made until It stands aa one of the most modern and plants In America. This assertion is made In view of the fact that even the largest brewery in the world has no better nor more modern machinery and appliances than this great Ogden concern. Jn fact, every appliance looking to utility, cleanliness, economy and hygiene have been IncuriHirated in the Becker plant. The consequence Is that today It stands as a monument to the push and energy of the men whose brains conceived it and carried ita execution to successful culmination. The most Interesting part of the industry outside of the Bec illative features called forth by the foregoing, remains in the Interest attached to the development of the beer. They lielleve in encouraging Utah, Its citlsens and industries, and purchases here at home everything necessary to operate their plant. The Oderhrucher barley Is used exclusively. This barley ia brought In seed from Wisconsin and distributed among the farmers, who are devoting their land to supplying the Decker with Its main cereal. This barley is known as a pedigreed barley. It Is a species of Itself, raised by Itself, and receives the same care in planting and nourishment aa does the finest standard bred racer or roadster. A large portion of this barley Is shipped to the brewery via the Oregon Short Line, a spur of which encircles the bjilldinga of the plant. Much of It is hauled In the farmers' wagons. The barley la then taken up Into the Immense grain elevator, where It Is stored until used. Carried automatically by from the grain elevator to the floor below, the grain Is cleaned and sifted and then conveyed to the malt door, where It Is allowed (o sprout and grow for eight days. It is then conveyed to the kiln, where it la dried. g com-imn- y Quality Talks I i t pre-emine- peo-pl- 1 Household Fair Gash or DEALERS IN FURNITURE CARPETS, STOVES, CROCKERY, WALL PAPER, AND GENERAL HOUSE FURNISHING GOODS. In the basement numerous washing machines are located as well as several of the newest makes of wringers. Regardless of the amount of week that It is necessary to perform the equipment of the plant Is such that It can be done with accuracy and despatch. On the first floor over the basement the drying rooms and ironing and finishing departments are located. As in other sections these departments are with the most modern and machinery and appliances and employes turn out work that Is known in this city as a synonom for quality. While the Ogden Steam Laundry does laundry work In all ita phases and has departments to handle every pact of the business, one section of the business that la showing a rapid growth Is the department that handles the laundry of entire families. The bundles from the various homes are brought In and washed; plain goods sre run through the manglo at the laundry, but In case of apparel that requires starching and complicated Ironing, the laundry merely starches the clothing and returns them to the home to be Ironed. In this manner families are enabled to secure their washing done In a highly satisfactory manner and at a cost that Is great se 100-hor- - te well-equipp- up-to-da- well-traine- d ' ! ! ? this rack la then placed In a washing machine and each and every bottle la thoroughly washed and sprayed by a stream of water and a revolving bristle brush. The buttles are then taken from this machine and once more examined and are then labeled by machinery', t The total per annum of this plant when It was first started was about 5,000 barrels. Today ita annual capacity la 100,000 barrels, and the brewery distributes ita product In the states of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. In addition to the $50,000 distributed annually to the surrounding farmers, the Becker company pays its employees, which number about sixty. $40,000. For these reasons one can readily see that It Is to the Interest of everybody to patronise home concerns. That this method Is greatly appreiated by the rsldents of Ogden le proven by the rapid growth of the business in thia department. Another dpartment that has been added about one year ago, and one that Is at the present time serving numerous customers In an efficient and satisfactory manner Is that in which the French Dry Cleaning Is performed There are very few laundries ln the country that pay especial attention to this section, but the Ogden Steam Laundry makes an especial business of this feature. Men's clothing, silk di ernes, all sorts of wool garments and numerous other garments that will not stand washing with soap and water In the ordinary say ar received in a soiled manner here and tun.ed out aa spick and span as when they were first purchased. And although this department haa been In operation for only about one year several are kept constantly employed In attending to the work. Ball dresses and other wearing apparel that formerly caused the ladles much trouble, worry and annoyanc on account of the easy manner in which they became soiled are received here; and thereby both the soils on the dresses and the worries of the ladles are rapidly eliminated. For the past three or four years the Ogden Steam Laundry has used a process for softening the water that It uses In fact. It Is the first laundry In the Intermountain country to adopt such a method. By the use of thia process the alkali in the water Is taken out and great wear and tear on the clothing la prevented.
