Show r alm BUREAU activities the officers of the local tarm farm bur eau cau met in one of the file committee I 1 rooms of the box elder commercial club last thursday night 0 o arrange an outline of the work tho the local chapter intends to take up during the next few months all the officers offic eTS were present and enjoyed very much the remarks made by our county agricultural agent sir mr R H stewart mr stewart gave gava a briel brief synopsis of the work that has been accomplished by tarm farm bureau associations in other parts of ali ohp je state in utah county the county farm bureau has been organized for about eight months and now has a total membership of 1100 members they have shipped in two thop carloads of pedigreed dairy cattle and have two more car loads on the way the farmers by being organized are able to do away with the middleman and are able to get the best live stock direct from the breeders bleeders bre eders the agricultural agri college is behind this movement men t and when utah county got ready I 1 to buy their cattle prof J i L calno caine III went cast and selected the animals for the farmers without any char charges es for excellent service in sevier county the members of the bureau shipped in a car ot of burbanks select russet potatoes last year for planting purposes the potatoes were planted and gave excel int in t results the potatoes were free from disease because they had been carefully treated for fudging diseases under the direction of 0 the county agent the farm bureau movement in box elder county is just in its infancy as we are just organizing at the present time tim e several local bureaus have been established throughout th county when a person joins the local bureau he be also becomes a full fledged member of both the county and state organization the fees are very small being a dollar per year WeA We anxious of getting a large membership in brigham city citi because the more members we have the more ideas we can accumulate and become more friendly toward the pursuits of each other the problems the brigham association have decided to place most emphasis on are L 1 the increase in dairy cattle of a high higher r character 2 home vegetable gardening gardenin S garden carden flowers 4 fruit problems the county organization is working on the following problems I 1 to increase the livestock industry of the county 2 sugar beets 3 alfalfa weevil 4 dry farming 5 standardization of crops the will bo be a meeting of the local farm bureau held in the commercial club feb sl 21 to which the public is invited A good program has been arranged and a good at attendance will be appreciated as the success of the organization depends entirely upon the interest shown by tho the members everybody come and join the great universal movement for closer reia relations with each other and better agriculture |
