Economic feasibility of controlling salt buildup by improvement of irrigation systems wu the main concern by thou at the meetings. Such items how many times a farmer hu to plow, disc, or harrow and what size tractor or equipment is used and how much each operation costs are being taken into consideration. Overall feasibility of the project will have to be justified economically. Helping in the study to determine cost and return factors for Roosevelt and surrounding area are Keith Mortensen, Ted Monks, Maurice Harvey, Jerry 19-2- 0 on-far- u and canal delivery efficiency are being studied using seepage meters, by a member of the Utah State University staff. The study is being done throughout the Basin. SCS SALINITY STUDIES-Seepa- ge Carroll, Ken Carter, and Ron Duncan. Also participating are Soil Conservation Service Economists, Engineers, and Agronomists. One of the main programs to be emphasized by the soil conservation service in upcoming years will be irrigation water management. According to officials the present on farm water use efficiencies of many farms is low Other farms have shown that are posaible. If this efficiencies of 60-7- 0 goal is achieved it would increase crop production and concurrently reduce the Colorado River salt level, SCS officers said. To date, 105 of the planned 175 on farm (30-40- ). inventories concerning Salinity Study have been completed and information obtained will be used to determine improvements needed on Uintah Basin farms. Inventories may result in lining ditches and canals, better drainage facilities, and overall improvement of entire irrigation systems. The final object will be to get a better return on money invested in the farm. The Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District wu established in 8ept, of 1940. Since that time, the main objectives of the district have been to be actively engaged in soil and water conservation programs for the benefit of people in the area and to help improve tbs environ-ment Ronald Dudley, chairman of the Uintah Basin BCD believes the Uintah Buin Salinity Study will bo another opportunity towards accomplishing then objectives. , .
