The project is being conducted ' for the Utah Outdoor Recreation Agency, a division within the Utah Department of Natural Resources. WE WILL MAIL questionnaires to over 1,200 households each month. We will also 'contact 250 householda per month by teleplume. The households have been randomly selected throughout the state. Though not everyone in the state will receive a queationnaire over the study period, approximately four percent of the households in Utah will be selected, explains Mike Dalton, project leader and member of the institute. The questionnaire will attempt to determine what recreation activities Utah residents participate in and where they recreate within the state. THE INSTITUTE HAS just completed an inventory of recreational facilities in the state so we know what recreation is available and where. From the results Of the participation survey, we should be a demand for able to determine recreational facilities by Utah residents, Dalton says. Therefore, we will be able to compare the supply of facilities and the demand by residents to find the weaknesses in the statewide supply of recreational facilities, he explains. WILL be THIS INFORMATION valuable in obtaining matching funds for recreational development under the Land and Water Conservation Act In order to obtain matching funds, a need must be shown for the proposed recreational facilities. It is important that those who receive questionnaires respond by returning the are really helping Siestionnaire. They Dalton by helping us, continues. The end result could be the funding of new recreation facilities or funding for updating existing facilities to meet resident desires. It is the resident's opportunity for direct input into the svstem. Dalton concludes. th annual Boy's State seminar wilt be held at USU in Logan BOYS STATE-T- he this year from June 5--12.
