Show I From the Files of the Uintah Basin Standard River forecast 10 runoff about average Western writers conference scheduled The April through July runoff from the Colorado River watershed above Lake Pbwell is expected to reach 7.6 million acre-fee- t, or 95 percent of the longtime average, the Bureau of Reclamation announced today. The forecast is based on the water content on April 1 of sixty-fou- r snow courses within the watershed area. It presumes normal precipitation for the remainder of the runoff season. LAKE POWELL is expected to rise from its present elevation, 3,665 feet, about 15 feet to elevation 3,680 feet above mean sea level by July. This would be about five feet higher than the peak lake elevation in 1975. Releases from Glen Canyon Dam from April to September 1976 will be a 5.8 million acre-fewith a water year total for 1976 of 9.5 million acre-fee- t. Lake Powell should remain above elevation 3,674 feet through the summer months and then drop slowly during the fall and winter. The lake, prior to the 1977 spring runoff should be about elevation 3,670 feet with an active content of 20.5 million acre-fee- t. The waters of Lake Powell are expected to reach a depth of 25 feet in the channel beneath Rainbow Bridge by the end of summer 1976. The National Park Service says boaters wishing to visit Rainbow Bridge may moor their boats at a courtesy dock near the boundary of the National Monument and then complete the visit by foot To preserve, the serenity of the natural environment in the vicinity of the Bridge, boats will not be allowed in the channel past the courtesy dock, although the water will rise to higher elevations this season. ABOUT 1.5 million acre-fee- t of runoff should originate on the Green River watershed above Flaming Gorge Dam, or 128 percent of normal. Of this amount, will be stored in 175.000 acre-feFontenelle Reservoir. If the forecast is realized. Flaming Gorge Reservoir should fill up to elevation 6,040 feet above mean sea level, which is its maximum storage level with a content of 3.75 MAF by July The Fifth Annual Western Writers' Conference will be held at Utah State University June An editor's and publisher's section and a special workshop for those interested in film and television writing are new to the conference this year.
