Kershner More on Regulative Agencies It costs American small business The Editor. Frequently, however, these letters arc much too long for us to use. For this reason, we are adopting the following policy: 1. Letters To The Editor or should be typed (double-spacewritten legibly on one side of an 8!4xl 1 sheet of paper. 2. We will publish these letters iC regularly as space permits. We appreciate the fact that some subjects require more length. In such instances they should be submitted as News Articles and will be subject to our regular editorial policies and current $18 billion per year to comply with the regulative agencies of the federal government. So says Small Business Administrator Mitchell Kobelinski, a former Chicago banker who has spent much time traveling around the country talking to small businessmen since he assumed his present office last February. We have often pointed out that the regulative agencies cost the American people about $130 billion per year, according to the Presidents Committee. The Small Business Administration is only one small example of these agencies and yet it costs $18 billion a year. Small business has been in greater difficulty since this agency was formed than it was before. These difficulties will continue to increase and to become more and more expensive, until at last, as Administrator Kobelinski points out, the United States approaches . . . a socialist, regimented economy. Socialism has already sunk its fangs deep into the vitals of American business. The more our formerly free economy is clobbered with regulation, waste, and swarms of highly paid, unnecessary bureaucrats, the less able it will be to satisfy the needs and wants of the American people. After some study of this matter for many years, it is my considered opinion that if we could abolish unnecessary regulations, with all the bureaucratic waste that goes with them, and all of us do a good, full days work every day, as our fathers did when this country and its prosperous economy were being created, production would rise at least 150 percent. In other words, we are living upon about 40 percent of what we could have, and nearly half of that is being paid out in taxes. CARTER DEFIES OATH Dear Editor: The push for the Equal Rights Amendment contradicts statements of belief in the family unit, for w ho has done more to destroy the family unit than ERA? As ERA gains strength, so does juvenile delinquency and divorce. People don't need any government statistics on this as the causes and effects can be seen in any neighborhood. Scarcely a day goes by that'a proponent of ERA isn't heard preaching that housework and child care are demeaning and that the sanctity of marriage is passe. This line of thinking also makes the Bible passe. No one seems to be against equal opportunity, or equal pay for equal work, or equal education, or equal credit opportunity, but when a bored, or greedy homemaker is encouraged to leave her children and demand a job that would normally go to a qualified breadwinner and demand that the responsibility of her children be put on society thru child care centers and demand that public restrooms and private men's clubs become unisex, this adds up to superiority not equality. It is encouraging as more and more state legislatures, recently Florida, become aware that a Constitutional Amendment is not needed since American women have the choice to live, work, travel, do as they please, ERA is being rejected. Finally, the once silent voices American men and of women arc being heard and drowning out the unconstitutional interference in State's business by President Carter. Vice President Mondale and former First Lady Article V of our Betty Ford.
