Show Page 10 The Paper That Dares To Take A Stand The Utah Independent August 19, 1976 READERS OUTLOOK Continued from page 4 19SS, the same statement was made as in our paper today, but on the very next day, November 26, 1955 we came out with the following: WE STAND FOR THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AS HAVING BEEN DIVINELY INSPIRED. We, as The Church of Jesus Christ on earth today, claiming to be the one and only TRUE CHURCH, are unique and peculiar. Because of such position, we have a broader, a more intensive, a more spiritual belief than that we just STAND for the Constitution and its three departments and want each of them to be fully independent in its own field. Who doesnt? We want more than this, when our Constitution now seems to be hanging by a thread with a dire need of its redemption and its replacement back to its original position. The Prophet, Spencer W. Kimball, proclaims in every speech he makes whether here or in any foreign country that we believe this Constitution to be divinely inspired. The President of the Twelve Apostles, Ezra Taft Benson, goes about this country and others proclaiming with a loud voice the same belief of the Church. WHY DOESNTTHE ONLY NEWSPAPER OWNED BY THE CHURCH SAY THE SAME THING? In my various discussions in Salt Lake City, some have said you are a member of the COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS, and that you, as managing director of the News, have full power over what goes into the newspaper owned by the Church. I would like to ask what power the Council on Foreign Relations has over you? I would also like to point out that if it has any, that you be replaced and that someone be appointed in your position who will see to it that the doctrine of the Church insofar as the belief, stated in this newspaper over which you seem to have control is concerned, is proclaimed on its editorial pages. I would also suggest that investigation of the character and connections of your replacement prove that the man to take charge be not entwined with, any foreign organizations or governments whatsoever. As I checked throughout the years, I find this statement has been changed back and forth and back and forth. I would like to know just why and under whose direction? I find it hard to convince myself that it was ever done under the direction of any President of the Church, or any President of the Twelve, or any member of the Twelve during these years. I suggest that the following comment on the Editorial Page of the Deseret News be printed in bold italic type for all the world to see: WE STAND FOR THE OF THE CONSTITUTION HAVING AS UNITED STATES BEEN DIVINELY INSPIRED, WITH ITS THREE DEPARTMENTS OF GOVERNMENT AS THEREIN SET FORTH EACH FULLY INDEPENDENT IN ITS OWN FIELD. Most sincerely yours. Pearl Ghormley St. George, Utah 84770 HERES ONE FOR JIMMY!!!
