Show The Paper That Dares To Take A Stand Cross has indicated there are nearly 40,000 refugees in the bleak area...all suffering from hunger, thirst, scorching heat in the daytime and freezing cold at night. The Saharaui were promised independence before King Has-samarch into their homeland. In an effort to escape Hassan's clutches, the 40,000 Saharaui fled, eastward. They were met by the Moroccan army and as they fled across the desert they died like flies. With the explosive situation in the Mideast, the fighting in Angola, the unsettled condition of Portugal, the imminent breakdown of the economy in Italy and world problems in general, it probably doesnt seem like much of a story to talk about 40,000 ragged refugees in the Sahara desert. And the newspapers dont talk about it. Not that that's unusual because the news media seem to cover up virtually everything of real interest to the taxpayers. You are not supposed to know about the murder of 40,000 men, women and children in the Sahara because if you did you might start asking questions about what is going on. You might start wondering why your government spent your money to destabilize Spanish Sahara and has even promised a billion dollar bribe to Spain as rent to get them out. You might even conclude that the reason why your food costs are going to double in the next year may have something to do with the skyrocketing cost of phosphate that farmers need to fertilize their fields and that the CIA has done a good job in stealing the phosphate mines in the Sahara from the Spanish in order to turn them over to the world phosphate cartel. How long will the public, the consumers, voters and taxpayers allow themselves to be victimized by a controlled press? You can answer that question yourself because it is up to you. ns Sahara Refugees Robert M. Bartel) WASHINGTON, D.C. (Liberty Lobby News Service) When King Hassan of Morocco marched his 330,000 desert dwellers into the Spanish SaBy hara, in his well-publiciz- ed crusade to demand that the territory be ceded to Morocco, not very much was said in the national media about why Hassan coveted the area. As we have pointed out before, about $200 bilion worth of valuable phosphate is there, and in return for vast military and economic aid from the American taxpayers. King Hassan has worked out a deal with the international bankers, including the Rockefellers, to assure world monopoly of the rare mineral. Naturally, the CIA was intimately involved in Spains decision not to go to war over the phosphate mines, and Spain will profit as a result of the new treaties with the U.S. involving the air bases and submarine facilities there. Right in the middle of this convoluted corruption is Henry Kissinger, our Secretary of State, and it is interesting to remember that before he became the elder statesman of foreign policy, he was a Rockefeller employee. As a result of Spains pulling out of the Spanish Sahara, Algeria, supported by the Soviet Union, massed its armies on the Moroccan-Algeria- n border, King Hassan, well supplied with top grade military equipment by your government, massed its armies on the other side of the border. With the prospect of war very real, the inhabitants of the area, called Saharaui, fled into the northeast corner of the desert. McManus Belmont, Massachusetts Early in January, ABC Television joined the long line of wolves howling at the memory of one of our nations truly legitimate heroes. The show Collision Course depicted General Douglas MacArthur as an arrogant egotist who made his Commander in Chief wait while his plane circled an is to be airfield. The incident, if ABC-Tbelieved, took place on the occasion of the historic meeting between MacArthur and President Truman at Wake Island in 1950. Immediately after the show was aired, however, Colonel Laurence E. Bunker, the Generals personal aide at the time, called a press conference to set the record straight. MacArthur arrived at Wake Island the night before, said Colonel Bunker. I know this for certain because I was with the General. The truth is that the General was waiting at the airport for the President. As part of a campaign to besmirch MacAr-thur- s memory, ABC Television chose to perpetuate the fictitious account of that meeting first propagated by writer Merle Miller in his book Plain Speaking. Evidently Douglas MacArthur in his grave is still feared by those who are plunging America into mediocrity and de- 0, self-respe- ct V No-wi- n Wars When the North Korean Communists invaded South Korea in 1950, they too ran into MacArthurs brilliance. For centuries to come, students of military science will marvel at the success of the amphibious landings at Inchon, where, in a single move, a certain defeat was with turned into a total rout of the enemy tente. minimum casualties. But the politicians who controlled America no longer wanted victory. Colonel Bunker pointed out that the Generals plan to try Japans Prime Minister Tojo for murder in 1945 was blocked by men who already foresaw undeclared Americas participation in wars. Tojo had attacked Pearl Harbor without declaring war, and had he been tried and convicted for that crime, the Korean and Vietnam Wars would have been declared wars and would have been fought to victory, or not at all. MacArthurs Greatness MacArthurs Legacy The long military career of General Douglas MacArthur included service as far back as The General said we should never fight a land war in Asia. But our politicians forced us to do so, and to lose. He said: In war; there is no substitute for victory. But the Achesons, McNamaras, Rusks, and Kissingers had their way instead, and the world is filling up with darkness and despotism. Douglas MacArthur will be remembered for his greatness long after ABC Television's petty lies are forgotten. Let us hope that our nation will produce more of his kind, for our country needs men who truly mean it when they pledge themselves to duty, honor, and country. ed Reader's comments are welcome. After the War, MacArthurs greatness shone even brighter. His careful and humane treatment of Japan, the defeated adversary, is a textbook study of chivalry and statesmanship. But his widespread fame was earned during and after his successful campaign against Japan in World War II. Casual students of that war can and do fill books with the often glorious but always bloody assaults of the Marine Corps on heavily fortified beaches. But a closer look reveals that as MacArthurs forces proceeded from Australia to Japan through the Western Pacific war zone, they lost fewer men along the entire route than the Marines lost in some of their major battles.
