As Congressman Flood, recognized expert on canal problems, has so often said, that plan will give the world the best operational canal for the transit of vessels practicable of achievement at least cost, result in enormous benefit to Panama and guarantee the Canal's continued efficient management supported by the strength of the United States. To the Editor Gerald Ford, Republican while House Minority Leader, on May 8, 1967 as I recently informed you. vigorously denounced a new Panama Canal defense treaty", which had been negotiated with Panama by Demorcrat President Lyndon Johnson, as shocking and declared that it would weaken U.S. control. Due to nationwide massive opposition, Johnson never sent the treaty to the Senate for consideration. From the time Minority Leader Ford has been President Ford (a scant 7 years later), he has supported everything Henry Kissinger. his Secretary of State, who also improperly occupies the chairmanship of the National Security Council, has done and is now doing in his determination to surrender our sovereign rights and control over the Canal Zone and Canal to Panama and thus effe- abandonment of our bounden obligation to operate the Canal for the benefit of world shipping. In an article The Panama Negotiations A Close-Ru- n (Foreign Affairs Oct. 1975), Stephen R. Rosenfeld. Washington Post Editorialist, affirms what has now become an open secret, that President Ford, because of massive opposition of our people and their representatives in the Congress, plans to postpone sending Kissinger's blueprint for surrender to the Senate for dutiful confirmation until 1977, in order to keep this nefarious proposal from becoming a 1976. campaign issue. According to Rosenfeld. House Minority Leader John Rhodes (Rep. Ariz.) who succeeded Ford in that position, advised that to proceed with the treaty now would be political Suicide." F. UNCONSTITUTIONAL HEW Dear Editor: For over 150 years the states handivft all aspects of HEW and we were getting along ok. Then socialist Ike set up the Fed HEW. It started small but look at it now. All a person has to do is to read the 0th Amendment to see that all of the Fed HEW is unconstitutional. It should be disbanded and all HEW activities returned to State control. If a person wants to see what labor control and socialism w ill do, just look at New York City and England. 1 D. Mac A. To say I was amazed is a vast understatement. 1: Item The Commission claims I owe $130.25 for the year 1970. I did not move into Utah until late Nov. 1970. Where did you get your information? Someone in your auditing department must have a vivid imagination. Item 2: 1 have not earned any money in the State of Utah since 1922. How could I owe income tax here? I was retired from my work in another state in 1967. I thought it would be nice to return to the state of my nativity, so I moved back here in November 1970. That was the mistake of the century. I have been robbed of my home and most of our life's savings, so that now I have nowhere to live and a mere pittance of retirement and social security, none of which comes from the State of Utah. Iam 74 years old. widowed, and unemployed since 967. Am I the kind of people you like to harrass, intimidate. and coerce to pay taxes that are not owed? The hunger for taxes and more taxes seems to corrupt completely. The record shows that the middle class taxpayer is the most easily, and eagerly, milked cow of all. Item 4: A few other things you perhaps dont know, but which arc true, alas: that under the inspiration of the Adversary, Karl Marx is the proponent of the graduated income tax; that he has won devoted disciples throughout the world and especially in these United States; that the income tax was passed by Congress without a quorum present, so it was illegal from the start, and the States then ratified an illegal act and made it 1 Fund for the Republic which made subversive new'.s in the Victor Provo, Utah 84601 B.
