Wh i 1 c Americans nations thousands of jam the virtually telecommunications network at Christmas and almost do a repeat preformance on Mother's Day. the lines are close to death on turkey day. Family dinners, ball games, pies and turkeys seem to take priority on Thanksgiving, unlike Christmas which pros ides the same niceties but still inspires people to call absent family members and friends the next best thing to being there. The vast difference between the calling patterns on the tw o days baffles telephone company officials vv ho point out that the same dKcounts for long distance apply on both days. Theres a 65 percent discount for interstate calls and a 35 percent discount for calls within the state. While people battle circuit busy conditions to get their calls placed on Christmas, the few who do call on turkey day have no problems.
