The new Russian arms aid strategy for the Middle East has off caught U.S. policy-make- rs guard and so far they haven't figured out what to do about it. It was Secretary of State Kissingers belief that the Russians would keep their Far East stockpiles of arms for use in that region. This Kissinger belief is based on intelligence estimates that the Russians planned to use their leftover arms from North Vietnam to bolster their preparations for a possible conflict with Communist China and to increase the fighting capabilities of the North Koreans. hard-press- ed NAVAL SOVIET The Russians MANEUVERS worldwide naval maneuvers now getting underway appear to be closely associated with the new Soviet military aid program for the Middle-East- . The Soviet Navy is being carefully positioned throughout the world to protect the new arms sealift and to let the world know that the Russian Navy now has the capability to supply any nation with a steady flow of weapons. There is grow ing evidence that the Indian Ocean, increasingly important because the new arms shipment routes pass through those waters, will be a main focus of the exercises to be conducted over a period of months. An estimated 20S Russian ships have been deployed so far and another 100 vessels w ill join in these worldwide maneuvers as the Kremlin begins to take full advantage of this country's loss of will to fight for freedom. Only those lack complete with a of economic understanding could propose stepping up of the very policies which have produced our present economic mess. Yet, such are the proposals now before Congress. If enacted, they could wreck our whole western civilization. Flooding the nation with artificially created dollars will never produce the wealth our nation needs to sustain herself. Such policies can only ruin the dollar's purchasing power, discourage production investment, and, given present ignorance of sound economics, create a demand for further market controls that will lead to more miseries. As long as he could strike any w here around the long perimeter and then retreat to safety in Laos or Cambodia, there was no possibility of winning the war. In the beginning it would have been a small operation to have occupied Hanoi and to have soundly defeated the communists to the point where a liveable peace If would have been possible. economic strength necessary, the of the communists could have been destroyed by bombing the dikes in North Vietnam. The decision not to defeat the enemy at that point and in that manner, but to merely thwart his aggression under the policy of containment, was fatal so was far as victory in Indo-Chin- a concerned. Going back another step, if we had allowed General MacArthur in recognizing Communist, Tito, instead the of the patriot, in Mikhailovich, Yugoslavia. This decision sealed the fate of a brave little country and made it part of the communist empire. We sided with the USSR against our friends, England and France, who sought to protect the Suez Canal, and by so doing, set the stage for the infiltration of the increasingly Africa and difficult situation in the Middle East. What made possible this soft policy toward communism which has snuffed out freedom in so large a part of the world and is still Vietnam. Here, too, the policy of reducing country after country to slavery? It was the gradual boring of the termites into the whole body politic of America. Congressman Martin Dies was abused and hounded out of public life when he informed President Roosevelt that there were more than 3000 active communists functioning in the lavished their affection upon Mao bureaus and departments of the and his agrarian reformers, while government in Washington. Among the latter are such things as Harry Truman's appointment of Harry Dexter White, a known communist, to represent the United States in setting up the International Fund; Monetary decided to destroy one devil , Hitler by backing another one Stalin. Even this might not have been fatal had General Patton been allowed to seize Prague and go on to the Russian border; if western forces had occupied Berlin instead of retreating 200 miles; and if the decision had not been made to return some 2 to 4 million men w ho had deserted the USSR and wanted to fight for the west. Against their agonizing protests, these men were returned to the Kremlin tyrants for liquidation. We might have allowed Hitler and Stalin to destroy each other while we reserved our strength to deal with the victor. Instead of so doing, we wholeheartedly backed the greater of these two devils and in addition saved the skins of communist tyrants in Russia by recognition, extensive aid, scientific know-hoand much needed equipment, without which it would have required generations for the Russian Government to attain its present strength. We said nothing about the communist murder of 15,000 Polish officers, the cream of the w to the appointment of communist Alger Hiss as a key man in the formulation of the United Nations; to the financing of two bloody wars waged by UN to wipe out Katanga, Christian led by the who Tshombe Moise educated sought to keep Central Africa allied with the West; to the backing of communist Castro in taking over our near neighbor Cuba; to the abandonment of the Monroe Doctrine and to the surrendering of the Panama Canal. The author points out that life expectancy. a few decades ago was much lower than it is today, only because more babies died in infancy. This is what lowered the overall Figures. She goes on to say that in a 1968 report, 20.9 percent more babies survived than did in 1900. This is why life expectancy has jumped; not because were living longer. There are doctors who charge that any cereal which contains more than 10 percent sugar should carry a health warning similar to the warning on cigarette packages. Not only do they not carry such a warning, they are advertised to the public as being very healthful. The author states: This book is not intended to turn you into food faddists or neurotic shoppers.
