Show The Paper That Dares To Take Page 4 The Utah Independent January 9, 1975 KERSHNER'S COMMENTARY anti-commun- ist bidding. No communist nation belongs to the World Court that was set up by UN. Nevertheless, every communist nation may have one or more of its nationals serving as a judge on that court. It might happen at any time that a majority of the World Court judges would be communists. If that should happen, the court might give Alaska back to Russia or the southwestern part of the United States to Mexico. The UN, as now constituted, is a dangerous organization. Give it time and it will reduce our country to a minor province in a socialist world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is one of its most active agencies. Its booklets are distributed by the National Education Association. It urges teachers to eliminate all words, phrases, pictures and other material that might cause their students to feel love and loyalty toward the United States. It is against patriotism for our country and would substitute UN for Almighty God. Twelve people connected with the administration of UNESCO have been identified in sworn testimony before Congressional committees as communists. Seven others have been connected with Soviet espionage and another six have refused to appear before Government Loyalty Boards. It is interesting to note that many communist countries, including the USSR, will not use UNESCO materials in their schools, while making every effort to permeate our schools with them. And remember, dear reader that you, as an American citizen are paying the greater part of the cost of carrying on this communist propaganda in our schools. It's Just A WHAT A Piece of Cloth BONANZA! the government split all farmland among the nation's It the families, IT'S JUST A PIECE OF CLOTH That is all it is just a piece of cloth. But when a little breeze comes along, it stirs and comes to life and flutters and snaps in the wind, all RED. AND WHITE. AND BLUE! And then you realize that no other piece of cloth could be like it! It has your whole life wrapped up in it the meals you eat: the time you spend with your family: the kind of things your boy and girl learn at schooI:the strange and wonderful thoughts you get in church on Sunday. Those stars in it they make you feel just as free as the stars in the wide deep night. And those stripes they arc bars of blood to any dictator who would try to change this way of life. Just a piece of cloth, that is all until you put your soul into it. and give it meaning. Then it is a symbol of liberty, and decency, and for everyone. It is just a piece of cloth until we breathe life into it; until we make it stand for everything we believe in. and refuse to live without it. Author unknown fair-deali- ng following, but one sentence of reply, but one phrase of warning, it would be: end invisible government by propaganda Once upon a time, the United States of America had a system of limited government called a and restore Republic. It was formed on the premise that God gave us our rights to life, liberty and property. Under that system, the Constitutional representative protect responsibility those basic rights. Benjamin .Franklin at the end of the Constitutional Convention, was asked what kind of government they had formed. His famous answer was: "A Republic, madame, if you can keep it." Somewhere along the way our Republic was sidetracked and in its place developed a Democracy which is supposed to mean majority rule. Thoughtful Americans are aware that we do not have a Democracy today, much less a Republic. The majority is certainly bitterly opposed to forced busing, yet we are saddled with it. The majority is opposed to most foreign aid, yet we are still sending billions of our tax dollars is springs eternal. The present condition of politics and economics could be likened to an alcoholic, who has yet to hit the bottom, before he can improve. Truly representative government can hope be eight-year-ol- d: even if you wet the toothbrush. American Opinion restored when . AMERICANS ARE COMING." The meaning is very plain. There are enough good folks who have no intention of becoming slaves. Hopefully their numbers will increase before 1976. -- The American Way Features DOLLARS FOR RATS ' In this year's foreign aid bill, still to be considered by Congress, there is at least S50 million for the purchase of fertilizer to give India. But will the increased food production be available to humans? The Washington Post says the rat population of India is 2Vz BILLION - in other words, rats outnumber people in India by five to one. Do you leave. recommend that government workers take it without pay? If you will investigate you will find that the average worker gets about half enough leave to be off 15 of the vacation time with pay. even if they used all of their leave. He does not like equal pay for quality and nonqualify workers, and complains about featherbed-din- g. I do not like these things, cither, but these practices had their start with the unions and in private industry. It is also untrue that all government workers arc in love with the administration or the officials who extend these benefits. Their political views are as varied as any other working class. This is especially true if compared .with contractors and other businesses who benefit so much from tax financed projects. Are you sure that some of your income is not indirectly connected with these expenditures? Legitimate the American people finally have enough of the "few" who are responsible for the dangerous situation facing America. The slogan for the coming two years is already becoming popular. It is simply: "THE World Report. If we no longer have a Republic or a Democracy, what type of government do we have? We have an Oligarcy or "rule by a few." No question about it. That is what we have and the sooner we realize it, the sooner it will be changed to the original limited government, which made the US the greatest nation in history. on them. The too not immediate future pleasing to contemplate, but choking to unappreciative countries. The majority of the American people are sick of crime and permissiveness, yet crime is growing, growing, growing, says US News and truly government based on truth." The coming two years are obviously going to be far worse than the past few years, and they were bad enough. Inflation will not be stopped under the direction of the same politicians who caused it. Taxes will become far more burdensome than at present. Each one of them, however, has a vote equal to ours. With only one vote out of a total of 135, we nevertheless supply 31.5 percent of UN's budget. That surely is taxation without adequate representation; The UN Committee on Colonialism voted 12 to 2 to affirm the independence of Puerto Rico when the Puerto Ricans themselves had voted 95 percent in favor of either commonwealth or statehood status with the United States. I have never believed that Puerto Rico should be a part of the United States, but it apparently was the will of the Puerto Rican people and the policy of our government. The UN does not condemn aggression on the part of communist nations. It does not champion voting rights for the people in communist nations. It objects to dictatorships in noncommunist nations, but does not oppose them in communist nations. It, therefore, promotes communist advance throughout the world. In fact, the UN waged and the US financed two bitter western oritented rewars to suppress the gime in Katanga under the late Moishe Tshombe. The United Nations seeks a socialist world. It seeks sufficient military power to coerce member nations to do its A It is conservatively estimated the rats consume 2'2 million tons of food grains each year. In some places in India, rats, like sacred monkeys, are treated with religious respect. In Bilaner. India, there is a temple devoted to the worship of rats and thousands of them live in the structure. Calcutta's main street has a rat park where the fat creatures cavort in broad daylight while starving humans pass by and do nothing to get rid of them. In clearing the land to produce more food grains, the snakes, natural enemies of rats, were killed off. So the rat population increases as does the human population and this strange contest for food and survival goes on between rats and humans. criticism is and necessary. Meacham Kaysville, Utah 84037 welcome AMERICAN HEROES Dear Editor: In an attempt to obliterate our glorious heritage, the "Left" constantly debunks our traditional heroes and glorifies our villains. Consequently, the countless stories of the courage, sacra ficc and heroic acts of American patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War remain untold. There's General Francis Marion, for example, who fought the British in the South and kept the patriot cause alive during some of the darkest hours. The South was a shambles. Without supplies, equipment or trained men, Francis Marion built a fighting force that followed him unquestioningly. This was the man the British called the "Swamp Fox". One time a British officer was brought blindfolded into Marion's camp to arrange an exchange of Marion offered his prisoners. guest a dinner of unsalted yams on bark and a mug of spring water. The astonished Englishman asked if it was the usual fare. "No. Marrion replied. "Usually we have swamp water with a pinch of vinegar to make it go down. Since wc have company today, wc arc having a little more than usual." Back in British headquarters, the officer reported to his superior: "I have seen an American general almost serving without pay. without clothes, living on roots and drinking swamp water, all for what-thecall .liberty and freedom.
