Show INTER-MOUNTAI- conference at Park City Monday and decided to call for another assessment. It was so ordered. Park Record: Superintendent R. C Chambers of the Ontario and Daly companies issued official notice this week to Foreman Connelly of the former property and Foreman Quinn of the latter, that they could put all unshifts at derground men on eight-hou- r the old pay whenever they fetl like it. A conference between the foremen resulted in June 1st being fixed as the date on which the change should be made, and the men were accordingly notified. Mr. Chamberss action is to be most highly commended, especially as it was a voluntary performance, the notice being issued without any request from or consultation with the men. The Record congratulates the gentleman on the bold stand taken, and hopes it will prove a beacon light for the guidance of mine superintendents in the State who have yet to conform to the law bearing on the ques- N MINING REVIEW. claims are also being developed and cent lead and considerable silver. With two rail- roads headed this way, and with the amount of mineral in sight in the Deep Creek country, we are comparatively happy. I have never encouraged a single friend to come to Deep Creek in all the years that I have traveled the desert, because there was no show to get anything out. It took two wagons to hald one load of ore, one to haul the water and fuel, the other the ore. Now, with a railroad, they can come and take their chances with us. There is no work for day laborers as yet, but there will be this fall. Let the man come who has some money and wants to make more, but let the man who has no money, but has millions behind him, stay with the millions, as these people have seen all they want to see of those influential promoters. I passed a corps of engineers in Skull Valley and now hear of a large company at the sinks of Deep Creek. It is said that they are out for the Utah & California Midland. Whoever they are, they say nothing, but pay their bills and continue to survey the nearest route to Deep Creek. The snow will continue long in the mountains, which will enable the prospectors to prospect longer where water Is scarce. H. J. FAUST. Sanpete County. Ephraim Enterprise: The Ephraim and West Point mining district is only about two months old, but it gives promise of being a very prosperous infant. Development work is progressing rapidly, and a number of claims give promise of being good producers. H. Carlston was over from the Bullion Paris today. He says the company is getting ready to incorporate. They will keep a force of men at work night and day. There are several carloads of ore on the dump, but the company does not seem in any hurry to make a shipment, and it is rumored that machinery for working the mine and also a mill will soon be put in there. The Elmore, I am informed, never looked as well as at present. The manager, Mr. E. C. Koch, io deserving of much credit, as he has developed the Elmore into one of the greatest mines on this coast. I am also informed that the Ophir will commence operations soon. This will be a great benefit to this section. The Bear Creek Alluvial Mining company has started up with about ten men. They will work a larger force as soon as supplies can be had. Quite a number of mines are being worked at Red Warrior, on a small scale. Gid Campbell has a good mine and a fine lot of ore on the dump ready to mill. Swanholm and Malm-bur- g also have several tons of good ore from the Wide West mine. Adam Gottsch has done well this last winter, taking out ore from his Richmond mine, Howard and Doney at Bonaparte district are doing development by sinking on the Newcomer mine. They are down about twenty feet, and the prospects are good. Howard and Nicholson have commenced work on their Snake creek mine at Bascom ranch. I am informed that Nicholson and Van Schaick have ordered a quartz mill from Capt. Baxter of Boise, to be put up at the Climax mine in Bascom district. Prospectors are commencing to start for the hills, and in a short time the sound of the pick and shovel will be heard on every side. 300-fo- ot block out. Helena Independent: William McDermott of Butte and the other men who are interested in the Ninety-Si- x lod, located just outside the city limits of Helena on the mountain back of the reservoir, are pushing work on the claim. They are in about 100 feet on the ore chute and are talking out shipping ore every day. Four men are employed at the mine. The force will be greately increased in a few days, if the main body of ore is discovered. One carload of ore netting satisfactory returns has been shipped from the Ninety-Six and a considerable quantity of good ore is on the dump. The owners of the mine expect to strike contact in 100 feet. The tunnel is progressing toward the top of the hill. It is in lime formation, but, for all that, the owners are confident they have a big mine and will strike the main or body at contact. If they do, a shaft will be sunk and in time a steam hoist put in so as to develop the property thoroughn ly. William Thornton, a mining x man of Utah, who visited the Ninety-Silast week, was much impressed at the prospect of the mine. He said that the great copper producers, the Modoc mine of California, the Grizzly in Utah, and the Necolia in Idaho were developed in lime from prospects in all essential particulars similar to the Ninety-SiIn the Ninety-Six last week was struck a small seam of ore that runs 50 per cent copper besides some gold, silver and lead. well-know- x. NEVADA. Pioche Record: Messrs. Rice and Farrel of Park City, Utah, who last week inspected the Old Timer group of claims west of town, have determined to open the property up. Their examination of the claims caused them to share the belief heretofore expressed by many who have prospected in that vicinity, that the flat ledges coming to the surface at various points, on both the north and south sides of the mountains there, are fed from some mother vein. They have arranged to run a tunnel through the mountain, If necessary, to demonstrate the correctness of this theory, and work has already begun. A force of men were put at work two days ago to make a road to the Old Timer tunnel, and after finishing that and putting up a building or two for sleeping quarters, etc., work on the tunnel will begin.
