A contract has been let for 400 feet of sinking. The Seal shaft is in porphyry and it looks asf though it would be but a short time now before ore will be encountered. It is the same material which overlies the ore at the Mattie 4, Geyser and Brickyard and other mines of the camp. The company is feeling jubilant and stock is in demand. The formation through which the boys are now going at the Golden Seals would indicate that the ore body is close at hand, and the workings of this property will be watched with much interest. The Hecla shaft is in ground of very promising appearance. The water has greatly diminished and the contractors are making excellent headway. It is probable that the vein is near at hand. J. R. Bell of the Denver mint, who recently visited Mercur, says he saw here the biggest ore bodies he ever set eyes on. this week accompanied the representative of the Mercur Gold Production company to their property, which is located just north of the La Cigale and Omaha grouds, and on the same ledge, and was very much surprised to see the The vein large bodies of ore in sight. entire the can be traced through length of this property and in several placets where the vein matter and ore has been exposed in the gulches by erosion it is to thirty feet thick and twenty-fiv- e stands up thirty to forty feet high. Bingham Bulletin: About 100 tons of ore are now being treated at the Winnamuck mill daily, and it is beon the ginning to make an impression second-grade immense amount of that is piled in the levels, drifts and about the old mine some of which was broken years ago. Taken as it comes, it is found to pay a small margin, and will keep the mill busy for a long time. Concentrates are being shipped at the rate of seven to eight carloads per week, and while the machinery is not yet running perfectly, there are few hitches now occurring, and they are becoming less frequent. The Winnamuck mnie and mill have, in fact, now fairly entered upon what there is every reason to believe will prove a most prosperous career. The Red Wing, located above the Julia Dean in Markham gulch, has just encountered a rich streak of ore, said to be the same as that coming from the Julia The strike caused quite a stir in camp, and should it prove important will stimulate work on many other claims in the vicinity. It is stated on apparently good au- thority that parties with capital have secured a bond leiase on the West Mountain placer, and will actively operate it this summer. A considerable outlay will have to be made for machinery and development before there can be any return. In the new workings at the Dalton & e Lark a large body of galena ore has just been broken into and it is apparently of great importance. Col. Heffron is arranging to start up the Spanish mill about the 1st of the monjh. It is a cyanide process of twenty-five to thirty tons capacity. high-grad- Summit County. Park City Patriot: The unsettled condition of the weather during the past week has been anything but conducive to spring activity in pushing developments. On Tuesday notice was served on all the ore men of the Anchor that all work in that department would be stopped at once. The announcement fell on the men like a thunderbolt in January out of a cloudless sky. But it came, and the men are bearing their enforced idleness philosophically. The Anchor concentrator will be shut down, too, as soon as all the ore in the bins is used up. The defective and unsatisfactory condition of the Anchor con- centrator is the principal reason for shutting T.down. If the talked-o- f new R. Jones and others is not mill by built at Park City, the Anchor people will build a mill of their own. This is a matter, however, that has not yet been decided upon.
