Abundance of Undeveloped Resources An Interesting Discourse Well Worth Idaho ths Coming Stats for Preserving for Futura A special meeting of the American Federation of Labor will be held in Salt Lake tonight or tomorrow night to receive the report of John Thai, the state organiser, on the existing conditions in Carbon county. Mr. Thai was sent by the Federation to make a thorough Investigation of the situation at the coal camps, and he gave three days to the work, returning Saturday night. He visited Bunnyslde and Scofleld and other camps and at all was given opportunity by both sides to ascertain exactly how matters stood. In speaking of the situation Mr. Thai said: "The Utah Fuel company Is handling everything in a highhanded way; the Siberians were little better off than the striking miners at Bunnyslde and the other camps. As an especial Instance of the manner In which they are treated: One man ordered a ton of coal from the company and after the order hod been delivered a man was sent with a wagon and took that coal from the bln where It had been unloaded. The men working for the company are treated like as many sluves. The guards knock on their doors with their guns and pull them out of their beds by the legs and make them go to work whenever needed. In the rough treatment of the men the guards hired by the company, and not the state militiamen, resort to bullying and blackguarding and uncalled-fo- r roughness. "The statements published in regard to the average wages of the miners being (3.75 per day are false. I examined the books and found that there were more men receiving under 1.75 per day than there were getting $2.50 or over. The most a practical, strong, hardworking miner can posalbly earn In one dny is $3.80. The miners are compelled to mine 8,440 pounds of coal for one ton. This la because the company claims there is so much slag. The same .coal Is sold by the company at 2,100 pounds to the ton. I got my figures from the checkers and I know what 1 anj talking about1 When asked If there would likely be any trouble when the evictions commenced, he said he did not think there would. He says he never saw citizens better behaved than the striking miners, and that they would adhere to the lettA. to the Instructions of Demolll not to resort to the least violence. Demolll, he says, Is well liked by all the strikers and his word goes with them.
