Show VOLUME VIII. NUMBER Sill GREAT IT IS Declared Off AN END at Noon Today, Union Men Ratifying Terms of Settlement CARS ONCE MORE CHICAGO, Nov. 25. The striking street car men this morning went Into a meeting which at noon ratified the agreement for a strike settlement, thereby ending the strike. The company was notified to take out trains and that operations would be commenced this afternoon. Fires were started at once under the big boilers In the power house, all the union pickets were withdrawn and the men are assisting wherever possible to repair, the damage which had been done to switches and trolley wires. The street railway company expects that by nightfall regular traffic on all its lines will have been resumed. The agreemnt which was finally ratified provides for the appointment of a board of arbitration within ten days to take up the wage question, its decision to date from today. A day's work is to constitute from eight to eleven hours with the maximum watch fifteen hours. Neither' side is to discriminate men. A against union or Joint grievance committee wil hereafter hear all compalints. The most important guarantee in connection with the settlement was secured from Mayor Harrison and the aldermanic mediation committee and is to the effect that if any man is unjustly treated with reference to being taken back the mayor and committee will stand by the carmen and see that justice is done by the company in non-uni- on The company agrees to reinstate all the strikers except those guilty of violence. The decision is practically a defeat for the union as the greatest contention, that of closed shop and union recognition, is lost although gains were made on minor points. The strike lasted fourteen days and cost the company and strikers alone in excess of half a million dollars, while the loss to trade aggregates millions. One department store alone reports a falling off In trade of nearly $10,000 daily. RUMORED OCEAH DISASTER Reported 8inking of the White Liner Cedric With All on Board. Star LIVERPOOL Nov. 25.
