The greatest gas waste, however, is caused by poor attention to open burner cooking. To eliminate this loss, two different types of top burner controls have recently been perfected. One type combines a simmerer with the regular burner. When boiling is reached, the simmerer is turned on and it allows a flow of gas sufficient to keep the food cooking without waste. The other type has an automatic device for turning down the flow of gas If boiling when the vessel boils. ceases, the device increases the flow. The gas industry has not only striven to improve its service to consumers, but has done fine work in developing safer and more economical gas devices.
