All they had to do was win two of those final three matches. Trent and Ryan Nestman at No. 2 doubles 5 fought to a victory over Cottonwood's Josh Neeley and Steve Burton to claim the state title at second doubles. Now all the Braves needed was a victory out of No. 2 Brandon Butler or No. 3 Kenny 6-- Lindley,. , Hoop camp "k The probfeW for the Braves was Skyline. Butler and Lindley were going up against set at WX CROSS The 1997 W(J)ODS Wildcats Basketball Camp will be held Woods Cross High School. June The camp is sponsored by the Catbackers, a booster club for Woods Cross basketball. The camp will include the following age brackets: Elementary (5th, 6th, 7th grade next p.m., fee: $35. yeapj, 12:30-2:3- 0 Emphasis: dribbling, passing, shoot-inmdn defense. , t Junior High (next year), 2:30-4:3- 0 p.m., fee $40. defensive footwork, Emphasis: defensive rotations, fastbreak defense, passing, dribbling and shooting skills. Sophomores: 9:30-- 1 1:30 a.m., fee: $50. Emphasis: Sophs will be introduced to the Wildcat basketball system. Team offense and defense will be taught. Winners in A flight are: 1st, Judy Berrett, Lorraine Phelps, Frank Berrett and Dee Robins; 2nd, Leanne Neilson, Lyn Brumfield, Reed Neilson and Ray Clark; 3rd, Barbara Lay, DiAnne Campbell, Henry Lay and Alan Aoki; 4th, Vauna Taylor, Carol James, Matt Taylor and Max James. B Flight winners are 1st, Jean Lewis, Jackie Smith, Brian Lewis and Dallas Nelson; 2nd, Joan Titus, Tim Toller, and Wayne Page; 3rd, Anne Lee, Suzi Nelson, Roger Lee and Vaughn Nelson. There was a tie between two teams for 4th place, Loran Hirschi, Louise Leake, Robert Herschi and David Hirschi; Margene Siegfried, Susi Nielsen, Michael Bodom and Chuck Class. Region 67 track two defending state champs for the Eagles. The Braves had yet to defeat these two opponents in matches this season. We knew we were going to get one of the top two trophies. It's just too bad it had to be the silver, said Bountiful Coach Jack Senniger. After Bountiful came through with the win at No. 2 doubles. Lindley was off the lost to Brandon courts next with a Greenwood in the third singles final. Meanwhile. Brandon Butler was playing strong against Kevin Zenger of Skyline. The two tennis aces were the last on the courts Saturday. If Butler wins. Bountiful wins the If Zenger wins, the state championship. crow n goes to Skyline. Butler battled to a 5 victory in the opening set, but Zenger healed up to win the final two sets 2-- 6-- 6 6-- It was the best state finish ever for e Bountiful High School. They claimed once and fourth-plac- e once. Final results: I. Skyline 20; 2. Bountiful 17; 3. Brighton 1; 4. Cottonwood 10; 5. Davis 8; 6. Jordan 4; 7. Alta, Highland. Viewmont 3. Davis' first doubles team of Matt Redd and Mike Bullard advanced to the finals where they lost to Ryan Scott and Mitch Easton of Brighton Bountiful's top player Jim Marsh won his first two matches with victories over players from Jordan and Alta. He lost in the semifinals to Tyler Poulson of Cottonwood. At No. 2 singles Butler advanced to the finals with victories over players from Bingham, Bonnev ille and Cottonwood. Jake Riley of Viewmont won his opening match and lost in the quarterfinals to a player from third-plac- 6-- 6-- Brighton. At third singles Lindley advanced with wins over opponents from West Jordan, Jordan and Davis. The Darts' Matt Smoot won matches against Bingham and Hillerest before losing to Lindley Bryson Backman of Viewmont won two matches before losing to the state champion. At first doubles Redd and Bullard of Davis advanced to the finals with victories over opponents from Kearns, Mountain View and Jordan. Bountiful's Tyler Nielson and Jeff Mason won their opening match, but lost in the quarterfinals to a team from Jordan. At second doubles the Nestmans went the distance with victories over teams from Taylorsville, Mountain View, Davis and Cottonwood. The Davis team of Chris Ross and Cody Christensen won matches against Bingham and Brighton before losing to the 1 in the semifinals. Nestmans 6-- 6-- 6-- 6-- championships Cats, Cyprus cream of crop at meet SALT LAKE CITY Cyprus edged Woods Cross Friday at the the Region 67 Mens Track Championships 129 to 126. East finished third with III Ipllowed by Murray 403, Olypipus 65, Judge 49, Tooele 43.5, West 27.5 and Granite 4. In womens competition East was first at 152, followed by Murray 14, Woods Cross 88.83, Judge 88, Tooele 76.33, West 40, Cyprus 26, Olympus 22.83 and Granite 14. The teams now prepare for the state Friday and Saturday at championships BYU. Top finishes for the Wildcats included: First place: Lonnie Winegar, 110 hurdles, 14.22; Jeff Waterhouse, long jump, 21 11.25; womens 1600 medley relay 4:22.5; mens 4x400 relay; Heidi Sonntag, 300 hurdles, 47.13. Second place: Winegar, 300 hurdles, 40.12; men's 1600 relay, 3:44.88; womens 4x400 relay, 4:03.69. Third place: Winegar, 100 dash, 1.25; Jeff Roberts, 300 hurdles, 40.53; Jake Staker, javelin, 161 02.
