Show A S. page B2 Tuesday, April 15, 1997 Da vis County Clipper Murray nips WX Wildcats WOODS CROSS It appeared that the Woods Cross Wildcats were on the verge of handing Murray its first region loss of the season. The Cats were in business when Marainne McAfee singled to open the bottom of the sixth and then advanced to third on a errant Murray throw that sailed into right field. The field umpire called McAfee out because she supposedly did not touch second base. "That call really hurt us because we had our number two and three hitters coming up, said Woods Cross Coach Donna Tippetts. The Wildcat rally fell short and the Cats lost 4 to Murray. Murray improved to 0 in region and Woods Cross dropped to "Weve lost some close games 5-- 5-- 4-- against some tough teams. Hopefully, well be able to get them the second time around, Tippets said. Murray and Woods Cross combined for 19 hits in the game including seven doubles. McAfee, Angie Christiansen and Serafi Avuaa all ripped doubles for Woods Cross. BHS team wins bowling crown BOIVI1FUL Bountiful Team led the standings throughout the year and then won a championship game last week to claim the 1497 High School Bowling Championship. Because they were at the top in the standings, they were seeded No.l and had to play only one ; i match. In the first match of the touma- ment Viewmont Team 2 defeated Woods Cross Team 4 827 to 739. In the second match Viewmont Team 2 defeated Viewmont Team 3 890 to 830. In the third match Viewmont Team 2 beat Viewmont Team 7 809 to 792 to advance to the final match against Bountiful Team 1. I Bountiful team 1 defeated Viewmont Team 2 in the championship match 866 to 758. Members of the winning team were Steve Tak, Josh Lakin, Michael Ingles and David Christopherson. Most improved bowlers during the season were Brooks Jenkins and Marc Scaefermeyer who improved their score by 20 pins during the season. Most improved girl was Corrine Hope who improved her score by 7 pins. High games with handicap were recorded by Eric Peart with a 291, Brooks Jenkins 290, Trey Dalton 278. High game with handicap for girls was rolled by Corinne Hope with a 266, Lara Bybee had a 250 and Theresa Peace scored 248. High games scratch came from Chris Ramon with 236, Todd The Viewmont BOUNTIFUL Vikings opened Region 2 play a day late, but it was worth the wait as they pulled out an exciting 4 win in eight innings. The Vikings struck first in their half of the first when Rocky Kirk led off with a base on balls. That was followed by back to back hits by Matt Oman and Greg Carr to load the bases without any outs. 5-- Nate Golds sacrifice fly scored Kirk to give Viewmont a lead. Bountiful came right back as Nate Weese got on with a base hit to left. He then moved to second on a wild pitch, and came around to score on Wes Patterson's fly ball that wasnt fielded cleanly to tie it after one. at In the fourth Troy Jorgenson got on with a base hit and went to second on a passed ball. Moroni Schwab moved him to third on a perfect sacrifice bunt. Jorgenson scored on Josh Thurmon's single, who stole second and scored on Nate Weeses base hit to give Bountiful a 1 lead. Josh Gold started Viewmont off 3-- in the sixth with a base hit and moved to third on Ryan Coopers double. Pinch runner Eric Young scored on Chad Cullimore's base hit. Bret Bumingham then doubled in Cooper to tie the game. After an intentional base on balls to Jon Ball loaded the bases, Cullimore scored on Matt Omans ground out for the lead. Zack Jacobs walked to lead off the bottom half of the sixth. Troy Jorgenson moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt, after which Josh Thurmon walked and Nate Weese reached on an error to load the bases. Luke Ruoti then had a good at bat, drawing an RBI base on balls scoring Jacobs to tie the game. Tim Clark started the eighth by getting on by an error, as was sacrificed to second by Jon Ball. Matt Oman drew a base on balls. Clark and Oman took second and third on a wild pitch. Nate Gold received an intentional pass to load the bases. Russ Smith came through by putting the ball in play and reached on an error with two outs to score Clark with what turned out to be the winning run. Bountiful made things interesting in their bottom half when Nate Weese got on with a two out base hit and took second on a throwing error, but Luke Ruotis fly ball ended the game. Chad Cullimore picked up the win working six innings, while giving up three runs on live hits. Josh Gold, Tim Clark, and Greg Carr all had two hits a piece. Meanwhile Nate Weese scored a run and went three for five with an RBI. Alan Anderson pitched well while taking the loss.
