The Braves host Skyline at 7 p.m. I was really pleased with our offensive execution tonight, said Bountiful coach Larry Wall. We were a bit sluggish in the third quarter. I was very impressed with the Spanish Fork passing attack. We tried to put pressure on the quarterback, but he hung in there. Thats the best passing game weve seen this year. The Bountiful running attack will probably be the best the Dons will face this season. The Braves had nine touchdown, missed field goal, touchdown, turned the ball over on downs, touchdown and time runs out. Bountiful chalked up 435 yards of offense with 304 on the ground and 131 passing. Brad Murdock rushed for 155 yards, Craig Jones churned out 112 and Wes Patterson ran for 37. Patterson was 8 of 10 passing. Meanwhile, the Dons came up with over 250 yards passing working out of the shotgun. The Spanish Fork defense was more like a sieve as the 4 A team dropped to on the sea-2 son. The Dons opened the game with three incompletions. Bountifuls Kimball Kjar made a good play to break up the third pass and the Dons punted. With good field position at the Spanish Fork 48, the Braves took four plays to put points on the board. The run up the mid longest was a 26-ya- rd third-and-eig- PAT. On their third possession the Dons got their passing attack on track. The drive covered 75 yards. A quarterback run helped in the drive and it was 14-- 7 with 1 1:26 left in the second quarter. Bountiful made it three T.D.s in a row. Murdock returned the ensuing kickoff to the Spanish Fork 41. The bad news is the big numbers were for missed tackles. The Wildcat defense which was so stingy in its first two games, was a against the Spartans who dominated the game from the start while cruising to a 29- -3 win which could have been even worse. The Wildcats had allowed just one short touchdown drive in two games against Judge Memorial and Tooele, but Murray showed little respect for them while dominating the contest Friday. How dominant were the Spartans? Well, senior captain Casey Davies didnt play a down in the fourth quarter, or he might have added to his 264 yard rushing total. In fact, most of coach Wade Meiers starters watched the final period from the sidelines or it could have been uglier. Not that it wasnt pretty ugly anyway. The Spartans won the toss of the coin (a bad omen for the Cats) elected to receive and began their assault They took the kickoff and quickly strung together runs of 12, 12 and 18 yards before the Wildcats could dig in enough to put up a front. Murray tniscues, a fumbled lateral and a false start penalty, stalled the drive and the Spartans were forced to settle for a 35 yard field goal off the toe of Rob Lane. Murray led 3- -0 with the game just four minutes old. Davies went 15 yards for his first of three touchdown runs of the night. Thats the kind of night it was for the Wildcats defensively. For eveiy big play they made, Murray countered with a huge gain. ed, Davies was well on his way to a nt big night having already rushed for 52 yards, and Woods Cross was wondering what had hit them. Late in the quarter Davies didnt complete tion of the Davies show. , , On Murrays first offensive series of the r half, Davies carried the ball on eight , of the nine plays. He covered 51 ' yards, primarily with runs of 8 and 14 yards, and covered the final two , yards on an inside draw play to put the Spartans up 22-- 0. An attempted ' for after the touchdown pass points 1 sailed high. The next offensive series saw ' Murray go to Davies again. The Spartans moved 67 yards in seven plays, five of them featuring Davies who had runs of 19. 1, 12, 15 and 15 . yards, the last play yet another inside draw into the end zone. Davies was done for the night and Murray led 29-- 0. Meanwhile, the Woods Cross offense was a pass Spartans didnt during the game. The need to. They racked up 437 yards rushing, gained 17 first downs and didnt need to punt at all. They did line up as if to punt once, late in the first quarter with quarterback Rob Rich in punt position, but the ball was snapped instead to running back Paul Morris who took the ball straight up the middle for 19 yards and a first down at the Wildcat 19 yard line.
